Remedy Entertainment has just confirmed that Alan Wake 2 and Control will be receiving upgraded PlayStation 5 Pro support in the near future. More specifically, Remedy has stated that Control Ultimate Edition and Alan Wake 2 will soon benefit from Sony’s newly upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) technology, which is being gradually rolled out across multiple PS5 Pro-supported games this month.
While Remedy Entertainment has a long and storied history in the video game landscape, Control and Alan Wake 2 are two of the highest-rated games in the studio’s extensive catalog. 2019’s Control earned a Top Critic Average score of 84 on OpenCritic and a critic recommendation score of 89% when it first released, and it’s only gained more critical praise in the years following due to the release of impressive next-gen ports and several noteworthy story DLCs. 2023’s Alan Wake 2 was similarly lauded by critics, with it eanring an OpenCritic Top Critic Average score of 89, and a recommendation rating of 93%. Much like Control, Alan Wake 2 also received a handful of story DLCs that were met with critical praise.

Alan Wake 2 and Control Are Getting PS5 Pro Upgrades Soon
On March 13, Remedy Entertainment’s social media accounts shared a post confirming that Alan Wake 2 and Control Ultimate Edition will be supporting Sony’s new upgraded PSSR, a PlayStation 5 Pro-exclusive feature. This “more advanced version” of PSSR will be available “soon” for all PS5 Pro owners, and it will reportedly bring “a new level of visual fidelity” to both Remedy titles.

This news comes just a few weeks after Sony’s official announcement of its new upgraded PSSR upscaling technology. On February 27, a PlayStation Blog post shed a bit more light on how this new PSSR tech differs from Sony’s original iteration. The blog post explains that PSSR is an AI library that “analyzes game images pixel by pixel as it upscales them,” thus boosting the resolution of select titles on PlayStation 5 Pro. This new version of PSSR has been developed in partnership with AMD and uses AMDโs FSR 4 upscaling technology.
Resident Evil Requiem was the first game to utilize Sony’s upgraded PSSR technology. In the official announcement, Sony stated that “multiple existing games” would be receiving a PSSR update in March. While Remedy’s confirmation that Alan Wake 2 and Control will be receiving this update didn’t specify a patch date, it’ll likely come before the end of the month. To benefit from this new version of PSSR, PS5 Pro users need to head to their console’s “Screen and Video” settings and switch on the “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” feature.
Alan Wake 2 originally received PlayStation 5 Pro support in November 2024. Unfortunately, this PS5 Pro version of the acclaimed horror game received a bit of a mixed reception. Though outlets like Digital Foundry praised the new Ray Tracing features, Alan Wake 2‘s PSSR implementation was criticized for image instability in both the game’s Quality and Performance modes. The PS5 Pro version of Alan Wake 2 also suffered from slight FPS issues, at least at launch.
In October 2025, Control Ultimate Edition received its own dedicated PlayStation 5 Pro patch. Control‘s PS5 Pro version fared much better than Alan Wake 2‘s at launch, with the implementation of PSSR being a particular highlight of the new iteration, offering sharper visuals and more detail, even in motion.
