9 Most Expensive Video Game Collector’s Editions, Ranked

9 Most Expensive Video Game Collector’s Editions, Ranked

Publishers have long used collector’s editions to not just celebrate the launch of their flagship titles, but also to offer their most loyal fans a deeper connection to the games they love. These limited editions bundle exclusive memorabilia, figurines, signed artwork, and other premium collectibles that bring the games to life beyond the screen.

All that, however, gets slapped with a hefty price tag. While some fans see it as a small price to pay for something special to display on their shelves or showcases, in certain cases, publishers have pushed the boundaries with exorbitantly expensive editions.

Ranging from thousands to even millions of dollars, these high-end offerings cater to those who crave exclusivity and are willing to spend big. For them, these editions provide a rare opportunity to own a piece of gaming history.

In this list, we’re ranking the most over-the-top, high-priced collector’s editions ever made in gaming history, each one a testament to just how far some publishers are willing to go.

Some of these video game editions were originally priced in other currencies. They have been converted to USD using the May 2025 exchange rates.

Bundled a Giant Mech Diorama

Armored Core 6 - Mech Diorama

Armored Core 6 earns its place on this list not just for its hefty price tag, but for bundling in a collector’s dream that makes it feel worth every penny.

  • Premium steelbook case with silver background and etched mech outline.
  • Digital soundtrack.
  • 40-page artbook.
  • Set of 4-pin badges in a special case.

Resident Evil 6 – Premium Edition (~$730)

Bundled a Real-Life Leather Jacket

Resident Evil 6 - Leon's Jacket

As one of the most recognizable faces of the long-running Resident Evil franchise, Leon Kennedy is known for working solo. However, that doesn’t mean players can’t step into his shoes… or slip on his jacket, for that matter.

Resident Evil 6‘s collector’s edition, priced at around $730, came with a replica of Leon’s signature leather jacket. Claimed to be made of genuine leather, it actually looked pretty high-quality. Capcom also threw in a copy of the game with four different covers, one each for Leon Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jake Muller, and Ada Wong.

Unfortunately, the Premium Edition’s 2012 release was exclusive to Japan, making it impossible for Western fans to part with their savings.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins – Dawn of the Creed Legendary Edition ($800)

Bundled a Giant Statue of Bayek and Senu

Assassin's Creed Origins Dawn of the Creed Legendary Edition

Assassin’s Creed Origins was released in 2017 with seven different versions, the highest-end of which was an $800-priced Dawn of the Creed Legendary Edition. Its main highlight was a 29-inch resin figurine of the protagonist Bayek and his eagle Senu. That and a replica of Bayek’s eagle skull amulet.

It also included the following:

  • A hand-drawn world map of Assassin’s Creed Origins’ Egypt.
  • x4 15-inch by 11-inch lithographs signed by Ubisoft.
  • x2 Steelbook cases.
  • Numbered certificate of authenticity.
  • Artbook and art cards.
  • Official game soundtrack.
  • x1 copy of the game, including the season pass, and other digital goods.

This ultra-expensive video game collector’s edition was limited to 1,000 copies, though Ubisoft never revealed how many were actually sold.

Dark Souls 3 – Prestige Edition ($800)

Bundled a Massive Lord of the Cinder Figure

Rarest PS4 Games- Dark Souls 3 Prestige Edition

The jaw-dropping Prestige Edition of Dark Souls 3 quickly earned its place as one of the most expensive and coveted collector’s editions in gaming history, thanks to two driving factors.

Firstly, the dedicated Dark Souls fan base is famously known for embracing every fragment of lore and collectible. Secondly, the edition’s centerpiece was simply too stunning to ignore: a towering 40cm Lord of Cinder figure, sculpted in exquisite detail to embody the decayed grandeur of the main bosses.

There was also a 25cm Red Knight figurine that could form a pair with the Lord of Cinder, making it a fine showcase for any shelf.

Here’s what else the Prestige Edition featured:

  • Hardcover artbook filled with concept art and illustrations.
  • Cloth game map of Lothric and the surrounding lands.
  • Collector’s edition box featuring exclusive artwork.
  • Steelbook case.
  • Official soundtrack CD.
  • Set of three iron-on patches.
  • A3-size art prints.
  • Physical copy of Dark Souls 3.

Only 2,000 units were ever made, and they sold out almost immediately. It also didn’t take long for the figurines to surface on eBay for exorbitant prices.

4

GRID 2 – Mono Edition (~$166,000)

Bundled a Real-Life Supercar

Grid 2 - Mono Car

Everyone dreams about owning their own race car. Codemasters took this a bit too seriously by announcing the Mono Edition for GRID 2 in 2013.

Paying about $166,000 guaranteed one player to essentially buy a 170-mph BAC Mono supercar and get the game for free. The car came with exclusive GRID 2 branding and was completely street legal. It also included the following:

  • A custom Bell Racing helmet.
  • A custom set of race suit, boots, and gloves.
  • A day at the BAC factory, including a factory tour and time spent with technicians to customize the BAC Mono for size and specifications.

Unlike Dying Light’s Apocalypse Edition, someone actually bought the Mono Edition.

3

Dying Light – My Apocalypse Edition (~$332,000)

Bundled a Real-Life Zombie-Proof Cabin With Adult Diapers, Just in Case

Dying Light's Apocalypse Edition

Someone in Techland’s marketing team apparently thought that because Dying Light is about outrunning zombies, one lucky (and loaded) fan would leap at the chance to do real-world parkour and live in a custom-built, zombie-proof cabin.

Dying Light’s My Apocalypse Edition was announced in 2015 as a six-figure prep kit for the end of days. Coming in at an eye-watering $332,000, it promised the ultimate immersive survival experience. This one-of-a-kind edition included:

  • A custom-built zombie-proof shelter by Tiger Log Cabins.
  • Real-life parkour lessons with Ampisound.
  • A round-trip flight to visit Techland in Wroclaw, Poland.
  • Your face in the game.
  • A life-sized Volatile statue.
  • x4 signed Steelbook editions of Dying Light.
  • x2 Razer Tiamat headphones.
  • Custom night vision goggles and adult diapers.

However, not one of Dying Light’s millions of fans took the bait, and no one purchased the most expensive collector’s edition ever offered.

Saints Row 4 – The Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition ($1 Million)

Bundled a Space Flight, a Lamborghini Gallardo, and Peak Absurdity

Saints Row 4 - The Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition

Known for embracing absurdity and over-the-top gameplay, it’s only fitting that Saints Row 4 had one of the most ridiculously priced collector’s editions ever. The Super Dangerous Wad Wad Edition was priced at $1 million, and for obvious reasons, only one was ever made.

The Wad Wad Edition was meant to significantly change its owner’s life. It included a Lamborghini Gallardo, a Toyota Prius, and luxury stays at the Jefferson Hotel in D.C. and the Burj Al-Arab in Dubai, complete with first-class flights.

That was just the start. The owner would also get to enjoy a space flight, spy training, a hostage rescue mission, and not to forget, plastic surgery.

Here’s its long list of offerings:

  • 1x Saints Row IV: Commander in Chief Edition.
  • 1x Full-size Replica Dubstep Gun.
  • 1x Virgin Galactic Space Flight.
  • 1x Hostage Rescue Experience.
  • 1x Spy Training Day.
  • Plastic Surgery.
  • A Personal Shopper.
  • A Capsule Wardrobe.
  • 7 Nights in the Top Royal Suite at the Burj Al Arab, Dubai.
  • A Week-Long Stay for Two at the Jefferson Hotel, Washington, D.C..
  • First-class flights for both the Dubai and D.C. trips.
  • 1x Lamborghini Gallardo.
  • 1x Toyota Prius with 1 Year of Insurance.
  • 1x Year’s Supercar Club Membership.

Let this serve as a peak reminder of the franchise’s height of zaniness, constantly outdoing itself with ever more bizarre experiences, something the recent Saints Row reboot failed to capture.

Dying Light: The Following – Spotlight Edition ($10 Million)

Bundled a Supporting Role in a Movie Adaptation

Dying Light Spotlight Edition

Techland’s marketing team has a knack for dreaming up ludicrous special editions as part of their publicity stunts. For Dying Light: The Following, the standalone expansion, they announced a Spotlight Edition in 2016 that offered one fan the once-in-a-lifetime chance to star in their very own Dying Light movie.

For $10 million, a Dying Light fan would get a supporting role in the movie along with the following:

  • Professional acting lessons from Roger Craig Smith.
  • A luxury trailer to stay in during the filming of the movie.
  • Stuntman and parkour training sessions.
  • Off-road driving lessons, where they get to keep the car.
  • x10 VIP tickets to the movie premiere.
  • x4 copies of the game, each signed by Techland.
  • The chance to voice a future character in the game.

While the dream of a live-action adaptation only lived for a brief moment, Dying Light’s Spotlight Edition still managed to earn a place in the Guinness World Records as the most valuable video game package ever offered.
