Summary
- Microsoft is giving away free $5 or $10 Xbox gift cards to lucky gamers in celebration of the Spring Sale 2025.
- Gamers can find the redemption code in chat messages on console or the Xbox app and use it for games, DLC, apps, and movies.
- Microsoft did a similar promotion during the Xbox Countdown Sale in 2024.
In celebration of the Spring Sale 2025, Microsoft has begun sending out free Xbox gift cards to some lucky gamers. Occasionally, game companies offer cash incentives to people to entice them to visit the online store or to apologize for some kind of inconvenience. And though the amount is usually small, few people will turn up their noses at some free cash to purchase that Xbox game they’ve been eyeing.
Season changes are often a good time to look for big sales on gaming storefronts, and Microsoft has discounted more than a thousand Xbox games in its Spring Sale this year. Some titles, like Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege Deluxe Edition and Batman: Arkham Collection have hit 75 or even 85% off, respectively. The sale includes releases for both PC and console, and many of them are Xbox Play Anywhere titles, meaning they only need to be purchased once to enjoy on both platforms.

In celebration of the Spring Sale 2025, many gamers have reported receiving a free gift card for either $5 or $10. The redemption code can be found by looking at chat messages on console or in the Xbox app on phone or PC. The gift card has no limitations and can be used towards the purchase of games, DLC, apps, and even movies from the Microsoft Store. Unfortunately, according to posts on Reddit, it seems like not everybody is receiving a gift card code, and so far only US gamers seem to be recipients of this Xbox freebie.
Some Gamers Are Getting a Free Xbox Gift Card
Just a few months ago, Microsoft did something similar and sent out $5 Xbox gift cards to seemingly random people in honor of the Xbox Countdown Sale ringing out 2024. And Xbox gamers have benefited similarly in preceding years, so there’s plenty of reason to regularly check the messages in the Xbox app or on console, which many players ignore because they’re often filled with group spam.
Microsoft isn’t the only company sending out surprise goodies to members of its gaming ecosystem. PlayStation Plus subscribers recently got unexpected compensation, though that was due to a temporary PSN outage in February. In that case, the company simply added five days to people’s PS Plus subscriptions, though the extension was added in two waves, once in March and again in April. By then, enough time had elapsed that many members had forgotten there had been a network outage at all.
