“Haters Gonna Hate” Turn-Based Combat Haters Decided to Review-Bomb Clair Obscur Expedition 33, Despite the Record-Breaking Scores

Well, something that proves way too popular is bound to attract haters, and this time they decided to review bomb Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, despite its massive success, since apparently not liking turn-based combat is the reason to hate a game.

It started off as a cool-looking RPG with an interesting story. The closer it got to the release date, the more was revealed about the game, and when it finally got officially released, the gaming community went wild. The mix of an engaging story, breathtaking visuals, and a “retro” style of turn-based combat proved to be a recipe for success (just ask the Final Fantasy VII Remake). And what a success! However, there are always those who want to rain on other people’s parades, and haters decided to review-bomb Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.

Turn-Based Combat Haters Are Trying to Review-Bomb Clair Obscur Expedition 33, With Little to No Success

When it was released, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 skyrocketed into fame. It managed to get a “Universal Acclaim” score on Metacritic by both critics and players. Some even say that high a score in such a short time was almost unheard of in recent gaming history.

It stands firmly at 9.7 out of 10 on Metacritic, on almost all platforms (it’s 9.6 on Xbox, fine…), with people claiming it to be one of the best games of 2025. However, there are those who will have none of it, and try their best to ruin everyone’s fun.

There are dozens of reviews that badmouth the game, saying it is cheap, more of a movie than a game (like this is a problem? RDR2 is basically an interactive movie!), overhyped, and, most commonly, that the combat is trash, due to it being turn-based.

Soooo, liking most of the game but not liking that one aspect is the reason to give 3/100? Maybe a bit excessive, don’t you think? This only goes to show that folks have nothing worthwhile to say and explain why they think the game deserves a 0/100. Sure, you may not like the game, but there are thousands of other games that you may enjoy. Going out of your way just to leave a negative comment, without much of an explanation, only means that you want to review bomb something, out of your own personal need to…spread negative comments?

In any case, those dozens of negative reviews have done little to no damage to the game’s overall score, as there are more than 4000 positive reviews (for the PS5 version, specifically), and about 80 negative ones. It’s like they say: “haters gonna hate”. There’s nothing more they can do.
