Megabonk: How to Beat Spooky Steve (Boss Guide)

Megabonk: How to Beat Spooky Steve (Boss Guide)

Megabonk has three maps: Forest, Desert, and Graveyard. The Graveyard map was the last one to be added to the game, and it’s completely different compared to the first two. Players will have to navigate through a crypt in order to reach the main area, and they will have to find keys to challenge the Stage Boss, Big Bob.

How to Get All Weapons in Megabonk

There are 29 weapons to unlock in Megabonk, and this guide will show players how to get all of them.

Unlike the first two maps, Graveyard has two main bosses: Big Bob and Spooky Steve. The latter is an optional fight, so it is not required to complete the map. He is much harder to beat, but will enable players to unlock a character in Megabonk.

How to Find Spooky Steve in Megabonk

Spooky Steve is one of the two bosses that players will find in Megabonk‘s Graveyard map. Even though he isn’t the stage boss, he is the hardest one to beat.

To find Spooky Steve in Megabonk, players will have to be inside the Crypt after the timer hits zero. If they’re unable to get out on time or purposely stay back, Spooky Steve will appear to haunt them.

How to Kill Spooky Steve in Megabonk

Spooky Steve has 340,3Ud health, and his attacks will deal players over a million damage. He is the hardest boss to beat in Megabonk and beating him requires a meticulous strategy, which means that no matter how strong players are, they will not be able to defeat him unless they have the right items, weapons, and tomes. Even if they get what many in the community consider to be the perfect loadout for this boss fight, it might not be enough to kill him before he one-shots the player.

It is clear that Spooky Steve’s attacks will eliminate the player even if they’ve invested upgrades into the HP and Shields. Therefore, players will have to find a way to prevent Steve from attacking them.

To do this, players will have to select weapons and items that are able to block, slow down, or immobilize Spooky Steve. Then, they will have to improve their abilities with tomes. Below, players will find an array of tips that will help them come up with the perfect loadout and strategy to take out Spooky Steve and work towards unlocking Roberto, the character added to Megabonk in the Spooky Update.

Tips to Beat Spooky Steve in Megabonk

The main strategy when it comes to beating Spooky Steve is to stun him to keep in place for as long as possible, deal damage while he’s incapacitated, and avoid any hits that might connect with the player. If gamers follow these tips, they will have a much easier time eliminating Spooky Steve in Megabonk:

Loot the Crypt As Much As You Can

If they survive long enough to collect the four keys and open the Crypt Door, players will visit the Crypt twice on the Graveyard map. In the Crypt, there are six chests and 19 pots. Reaching and interacting with as many of these chests and pots as possible will give players a huge advantage when it comes to surviving the early game – which is where players tend to fail their runs.

The pots will give players a huge advantage in terms of XP and gold. The chests in the Crypt are free of cost, so players can get up to six free items from the get-go, which can be a major game-changer. Gamers must make sure that they’re able to grab as much loot both times that they visit the Crypt.

Since they will be battling Spooky Steve during their second visit to the Crypt, they’ll want to make sure that they’re in a relatively safe room where they can easily move their character without too many obstacles, such as high walls and lava.

Best Characters to Beat Spooky Steve

Spooky Steve is able to drain players’ entire health bar in a single hit. This means that players will have to block his attacks. If there’s one character that’s good at blocking attacks and hitting back harder, it’s Athena. She is able to fully avoid Spooky Steve’s damaging attacks while Aegis is still active, making her a great candidate to face this boss.

Another great character choice is Bandit. He’s got the Dexecutioner as his primary weapon and his attack speed only increases as he levels up. The Dexecutioner is a crucial of almost every strategy that focuses on taking down Spooky Steve, as its execute ability is what is able to deal decent damage to this bulky boss. Additionally, he’s slightly faster, which makes it easier for players to loot and explore the map, thus guaranteeing more items and levels before the Final Swarm.

Toggle Off What You Don’t Need For Your Strategy

Taking down Spooky Steve won’t only depend on how much players can level up and increase the power of their weapons and tomes. Having access to the right set of weapons, tomes, and items will be crucial to eliminating Spooky Steve.

Therefore, once players have formed their strategy, they’ll want to take advantage of the Toggler (purchased in the Shop) and toggle off everything that they don’t want in their inventory. Some options cannot be toggled off, and in that case, players will have to resort to using refresh, skip, and banish (also available in the Shop).

Best Weapons to Beat Spooky Steve

To beat Spooky Steve, players will have to immobilize him while trying to deal as much damage as possible. On top of that, they also need to able to survive any oncoming hit when he’s released from players’ hold. With this in mind, there are three weapons that are mandatory if players want to have a chance against Spooky Steve:

  • Aegis – able to block his blows, keeping players alive
  • Dexecutioner – has a chance to perform an Execute on Spooky Steve, significantly lowering his health
  • Black Hole – keeps enemies in place, immobilizing Spooky Steve for longer

While some players prefer a three-weapon only loadout to maximize each weapon’s power, others prefer to take four varieties. Gamers who want a fourth option will want to pick Frostwalker, as it has a chance to freeze an enemy.

Stay for the Final Swarm But Don’t Get Greedy

Players can stay for the Final Swarm and still enter the Crypt after the timer has reached zero. They can explore what remains of the map and attempt to farm more XP and collect more items for the final boss fight. However, it’s important to check easily they’re beating the enemies in the Final Swarm, as it might not take long for them to become overwhelmed and fall to these swift ghosts.

Exploring the map is fine during the first minute or so of the Final Swarm. However, players must be sure that they’re not too far away from the Crypt so they have enough time to reach it. The ideal is to explore before the swarm starts coming and then camp by the Crypt’s entrance so players can guarantee that they’re still able to go in and challenge Spooky Steve.

Best Items to Beat Spooky Steve

Keeping Spooky Steve in place is crucial if players want to get him to zero HP. Therefore, they will want to pick items that stun or freeze him, meaning items with electric and ice properties, such as:

  • Ice Crystal – 7,5 percent chance to freeze enemies upon hitting them
  • Thunder Mitts – Upon hitting an enemy, generate a lightning strike
  • Electric Plug – Upon taking damage, send out an electric shock to nearby enemies
  • Power Gloves – 8 percent chance to create a giant blast upon hitting an enemy, damaging and knocking enemies away
  • Lightning Orb – 25 percent chance to summon lightning when hitting enemies. Lightning can now stun enemies
  • Ice Cube – 28 percent cahnce to inflict damage when hitting enemies. Ice can now freeze enemies
  • Overpowered Lamp – +1 chance to proc on hit effects

Gamers will want to maximize their chances of obtaining these items, and try their hardest to find more of them or copy them using a microwave.
