Crimson Desert's Character Creator Mod is Essential For Building Your Own Protagonist

Pearl Abyss has given players limited options with their in-game character customization, through changing the hairstyle and hair color of their chosen protagonist. However, talented modder Khione95 developed the Character Creator mod that allows you to build your own character.

While this is a mod and not a vanilla feature, we’ll walk you through the easy process of installing and using it so you have over 98 face presets and 159 hairstyles to choose from to truly create your own character.

How to Unlock the Barber in Crimson Desert

Players can change the appearance of the playable characters in Crimson Desert, but only later in the game.

As stated above, this is a mod, so only PC players will be able to install and use this feature from creator Khione95. As of April 9, 2026, this mod changes Kliff to female, but Khione95 plans to add male customizations in the future.

How to Install the Character Creator Mod in Crimson Desert

Head to NexusMods.com and download the JSON Mod Manager from PhorgeForge (linked here).
Extract the zip file anywhere on your PC.
Double-Click “mod_manager.exe” to install the software.
Crimson Desert’s install location should automatically be found, but if not, click Browse to set it manually.
With JSON Mod Manager installed, head back to NexusMods.com and download Character Creator – Female from Khione95.
Extract the “CharacterCreator” zip file and enter it to get the “CharacterCreator” folder.
Open CD JSON Mod Manager and drag the CharacterCreator folder into the top section titled “Drop mods here to install”.
Click the green arrow in JSON Mod Manager to add CharacterCreator to your active mods.
Click “Apply Mods” on the bottom left of the JSON Mod Manager to activate the mod.
Click “Start Game” on Crimson Desert.

How to Use the Character Creator Mod in Crimson Desert

Head to the Howling Hill Camp to find Eric the Barber. (If Eric is not here, consult this guide about obtaining him for your Camp, but don’t download any conflicting mods.)
Interact with Eric to enter the Barber | Customize screen, where you can now choose between 98 face presets (Beard) and 159 hairstyles (Hair).
All armors and movements have also been updated with the new female character model.
