The long-awaited announcement for the Masters of Ceremony Warbond finally arrived on May 8. Although the aesthetics are great, and the designs are quite cool, many players were disappointed with the new Warbond. It seems that even a game like Helldivers 2 couldn’t escape shrinkflation, as the Warbonds have lately featured fewer items than they did before.
Helldivers Accuse the Devs of Putting Fewer Items in Warbonds
First, if you haven’t heard of the term shrinkflation before, it’s a phenomenon that has become common worldwide. Instead of raising the price, the producer leaves the same price, but puts less of the product in the package. Unfortunately, this has become common practice over the last couple of years. Furthermore, it has even started affecting the gaming industry.
Helldivers have been complaining that the last couple of Warbonds have fewer items but cost the same as the ones before. Since the Warbonds drop every six weeks or so, and usually alongside an update, it wasn’t necessarily an issue. However, it’s been a while since an update, and the players are starved for content.
Naturally, they expected a lot from the overhyped announcement of the Warbond, and they were disappointed. One player, Mindstormer98, put the items from the new Warbond over the format used for the Polar Patriots Warbond. And, well, see for yourself. Polar Patriots features 3 armor sets, 3 primary weapons, 3 utilities, 3 banners, 3 capes, and 3 emotes. Masters of Ceremony features 2 armor sets, 1 primary weapon, 3 utilities, 2 banners, 2 capes, 1 emote, a player title, and a booster. That’s quite a difference.

Many players added that Cutting Edge and Democratic Detonation also feature way more items than the new Warbond. The new Warbonds seemingly feature one armor set less, but it’s usually added to the Superstore separately. One player noted: “They really need to make the new Warbonds 800SC. I highly doubt they will, but there’s just such little content in this warbond, and we have to spend SC on all the stuff in the Superstore, which really should’ve just been included in the warbond to begin with”.

According to Helldivers 2 Players, Shrinkflation Isn’t the Only Problem
Unfortunately, the Helldivers 2 community claims that in the last couple of Warbonds, and especially in Masters of Ceremony, shrinkflation isn’t the only issue. According to them, the bigger problem is that the items in Warbonds don’t really have a significant impact on the gameplay.
For example, the community is currently quite annoyed that the teased Flag Stratagem in Masters of Ceremony will be just that – a flag that can be used as a spear. Some players asked one of the devs, miitchimus, if it would do anything else. The dev simply responded: “You need more??”.

Obviously, there’s always a possibility that the devs are gatekeeping something that could be revealed at the Singularity Party, but we wouldn’t hold our breath. We’ll find out on May 13, on Widow’s Peak. In the meantime, join us on Veld for the current Major Order. For Liberty and Super Earth.
