Every 11 Bit Studios Game in Development (April 2026)

Among legions of underappreciated indie developers and publishers is 11 Bit Studios, a team best known for its thoughtful survival games Frostpunk and This War of Mine. More recently, it released the critically acclaimed The Alters, a sci-fi survival-adventure game that represents a massive step forward for the company.

11 Bit Studios is also a publisher, having distributed games like The Thaumaturge, Indika, and Moonlighter 2. However, the following will specifically cover games developed by 11 Bit Studios itself, which excludes games it is publishing like Crop.

Earlier 11 Bit Studios games, including the first Frostpunk and This War of Mine, are brilliant, but mechanically constrained in some ways. While not everyone loved the direction Frostpunk 2 took, it was certainly a riskier and more nuanced game in a lot of ways; it feels like 11 Bit Studios came into its own a bit more with the sequel. And with The Alters, which blends streamlined base-building, resource-management, social simulation, and third-person exploration for surprisingly great results, the studio seems to be trending in a more creative, but still unmistakably “11 Bit,” trajectory. Hopefully, this means good things for the five 11 Bit Studios projects currently known to be in development.

The Alters: Why You Should Consider Playing On the Highest Difficulty Setting

The Alters isn’t exactly a walk in the park on normal difficulty, but for a true nail-biting experience, players should consider cranking things up.

Frostpunk 1886

This is perhaps the most commonly known 11 Bit Studios project in development, as it’s the only one we’ve actually caught a glimpse of so far. Frostpunk 1886 is a “full reimagining” of the original 2018 survival city builder developed in Unreal Engine 5, which 11 Bit Studios says allows for far greater visual fidelity and detail, particularly when exploring zoomed-in parts of the city. The studio hasn’t shed too much light on this aspect of the remake just yet, but watching your growing population mill about is one of the most satisfying parts of Frostpunk, so I’m certainly excited to hear more about it.

Beyond visuals, Frostpunk 1886 is reapproaching the survival mechanics of the original, paying particular attention to the law tree and purpose paths. For instance, Frostpunk 1886 will include a new Maintenance route for Child Labour, as well as a new Makeshift Prostheses option to make the Prostheses law more valuable in the early game. In general, 11 Bit appears to demonstrate a striking degree of awareness of its own work, offering lucid criticisms of the original Frostpunk’s pacing, which changes like these are meant to remedy. With more governing options to play with, Frostpunk 1886 can be both deeper and longer than its predecessor.

11 Bit Studios has been careful to explain that Frostpunk 1886 is a balancing act: too many changes, or too many transformative ones, could break what makes the original Frostpunk work so well. Still, Frostpunk 1886 is clearly more ambitious than a simple remaster or re-release, and 11 Bit’s earnest desire to improve upon the 2018 original sends a strong message.

11 Bit Studios also recently announced that it is bringing the original Frostpunk to the Nintendo Switch, though this has yet to get a firm release window.

A Brand-New Frostpunk Game

In a recent annual earnings report from 11 Bit Studios (April 2026), the developer-publisher revealed a number of projects, including an all-new Frostpunk game, but perhaps not exactly Frostpunk 3. To quote the report itself: “We are also expanding the universe of the cult classic Frostpunk into a new genre.”

This is very enticing, but also very unpredictable. 11 Bit Studios’ titles, and Frostpunk in particular, have always been survival games at their core. They may be more narratively driven than their contemporaries in the genre, and they may have novel, genre-blending ideas, but they can still be safely considered under the survival umbrella. To outright describe the next Frostpunk as part of a “new genre” is therefore quite bold, and it’s not at all clear what to expect. But I can certainly see how the Frostpunk world could host an adventure game, for instance, so there’s a lot of potential here.

A ‘Reimagining’ of This War of Mine

Like the currently unrevealed new Frostpunk game, the reimagining of This War of Mine was announced as part of an April earnings report. And also like the new Frostpunk game, virtually nothing is known about this project, although it sounds quite a bit like Frostpunk 1886: “Projects like Frostpunk 1886 or the newly announced P15, which is a reimagining of This War of Mine, are not standard remasters. They represent a fully modern, fresh take on the games that defined 11 Bit Studios, designed from the ground up with a multi-year lifecycle and long-term community engagement in mind.”

The “multi-year lifecycle and long-term community engagement” bit is a little concerning—one can only hope that these games don’t turn out to be terribly misguided live-services or anything like that—but this may just be a reference to 11 Bit’s tendency to release multiple expansions for its games. At any rate, a modern recreation of This War of Mine could be even more of a dramatic leap forward than Frostpunk 1886, as This War of Mine was released earlier (2014) and is far more rudimentary both visually and mechanically. It’s a great game at its core, but it has a lot of room to grow.

Two Unannounced New IP

The most obfuscated 11 Bit Studios projects are referred to as P12 and P14 in the aforementioned earnings report: “We are investing in completely new worlds, opening subsequent chapters in the studio’s history through proprietary projects P14 and P12.” The terms “completely new worlds” and “proprietary projects” indicate that P12 and P14 are not part of established IP, and that they are being developed and published by 11 Bit Studios itself.

There haven’t been release date announcements for any of these projects yet, but it’s worth noting that the “new genre” Frostpunk game is called P13 in the earnings report, while the This War of Mine remake is called P15. This suggests that one of these new IPs could be released first, the new Frostpunk could be released between the new IPs, and the This War of Mine remake could release after them all. But this is purely speculation based on the projects’ naming convention.
