Xbox Game Pass Adding Over 50 Retro Classics

Xbox Game Pass Adding Over 50 Retro Classics

Xbox Game Pass has introduced Retro Classics, a new collection featuring over 50 iconic Activision games from the 1980s and 1990s, available starting May 21. This launch brings an impressive level of retro gaming as part of the May update package for Xbox gamers. Xbox Game Pass is a service aimed at PC and Xbox gamers who want access to a constant stream of games, featuring not only new releases but nostalgic titles as well.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard in January 2023 has enabled Microsoft to take advantage of the company’s vast library of classic games, spanning across generations. Thanks to a partnership with Antstream Arcade, a popular platform for classic games, Xbox has previously offered gamers access to a host of PlayStation 1 games. With an impressive list of recent games brought to the platform, ranging from Doom: The Dark Ages to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, it now also offers a better selection of classics.

In addition to excellent versatility in games and genres, Retro Classics introduces modern quality-of-life improvements. The new features include save and reload functionality, which wasn’t often available in the originals. The app also supports community challenges, achievements, new challenge modes, and high-score rankings. Players can create community challenges that run for 24 hours, complete tasks for points and experience, or challenge community members for one-on-one gameplay. With multiplayer-focused features, the collection is not only excellent for solo players looking for nostalgia but also for those who wish to compete in some of the most legendary game titles against other gamers.

Game Pass members can access Retro Classics by installing the app through their console or the Xbox app on PC. The Retro Classics app incorporates access to all the necessary features associated with the games, challenges, and achievements. The new app is in line with the company’s mission to bring more classic games to players. Microsoft has continuously expanded the offering in its subscription service, recently adding Ubisoft’s classic games, making Xbox Game Pass a great one-stop subscription service for gaming.

Xbox has also confirmed plans to expand the Retro Classics library, with future additions from Activision expected to grow the collection to over 100 titles. In terms of modern games, Microsoft added Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and others to Xbox Game Pass in May. In addition to games, Microsoft also unveiled additional streaming options for GeForce Now, quick settings for Game Bar, and Xbox gift cards in custom amounts in its May update.
