How to Recharge Your Tools and Batteries in Subnautica 2

How to Recharge Your Tools and Batteries in Subnautica 2

In Subnautica 2, tools like the Scanner, the Wakemaker, the Habitat Builder, and others require power from Basic Battery cells to function. When a tool is first crafted, it comes with a full charge. However, the more it is used, the more the charge depletes, eventually fully running out and rendering the tool inoperable.

While it is certainly possible for players to keep crafting new tools over and over to replace the depleted ones, it would be a waste of resources. That is because these tools can be recharged by replacing their depleted Batteries with new, fully charged ones. The depleted Batteries won’t go to waste either. They can be recharged at a Battery Terminal as needed, remaining useful forever.

To recharge tools in Subnautica 2, you need to load them with a fully charged Basic Battery. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Place a fully charged Basic Battery in your inventory.
  • Select the tool you want to recharge in the quick slots menu (hotbar).
  • Press “R” to bring up the reload menu.
  • Select the Basic Battery from the pop-up.
  • Press the “Load” hotkey displayed on the screen to swap the empty battery with the fully charged one.

The charged Basic Battery will be inserted into the tool, and a depleted battery will replace it in your inventory.

If there are multiple Basic Batteries in your inventory, you can cycle through them. Their charge will be displayed at the bottom of the selector.

If you run out of charge for a crucial tool like the Scanner while out exploring and don’t have a Basic Battery handy to recharge it, you can swap the charge between different tools as needed. Here’s how this works.

  • Select a tool whose charge you want to take.
  • Press “R” to bring up the Reload menu.
  • Press the “Unload” hotkey displayed on the screen, and a Basic Battery will be deposited in your inventory.
  • Use this Basic Battery to charge the tool you want to power.

The Tadpole is powered by Power Cells, not Basic Batteries. Power Cells can be recharged at a Power Cell Terminal.

Battery Terminal Fragment Locations

In Subnautica 2, depleted Batteries can be charged at a Battery Terminal, a type of base module with the capacity to charge up to 6 Batteries at the same time by drawing energy from base power.

The Battery Terminal blueprint can be unlocked by finding and scanning two Battery Terminal Fragments in the game world. Conveniently, two Battery Terminal Fragments can be found in the Old Habitat, located exactly 220m SE of the Lifepod.

  • Battery Terminal Fragment #1: Found on a wall directly underneath the Old Habitat signal.
  • Battery Terminal Fragment #2: Found on the wall near the Quaker Blackbox (second floor).

How to Use the Battery Terminal

Once you’ve unlocked the blueprint, you’ll build a Battery Terminal in your base using the following recipe:

Once you have the Battery Terminal set up in your base, simply deposit any depleted Basic Batteries in it, and it will start charging them automatically for as long as it has power. Basic Batteries charge up extremely quickly, taking no longer than a minute to go from 0 to 100%.

Each Battery being charged in the Battery Terminal pulls 1 Energy/sec from the base power. So, if you have 6 Basic Batteries charging at the same time, the Battery Terminal will require 6 Energy/sec to work, but if there is only one Battery, 1 Energy/sec will be all it needs.
