If you want to become a ghoul, this guide can walk you through the steps.
This guide will cover most of the Casting Off quest, including how to get the location of the Fisherman, how to reach the quest location in the Mire, and all the details about how to start fishing in Fallout 76. So, let’s get a rod and catch a big bass.
How to Start Casting Off In Fallout 76
Players will need to tune to the Linda-Lee frequency on their Pip-Boy Radios to discover the Casting Off seasonal quest, then, head to the Mire area at the location marked on the map to find a new hub with two new strange NPCs they can talk to. The first is a non-aggressive Mirelurk, and the other is Captain Raymond Clark, who will grant players access to their first Fishing Rod and Bait. Once they have talked to them both, it’s time to get fishing.
In case players have been wondering, the Fishing Rod doesn’t appear in the Pip Boy screen as an item, but it’s more like a tool that can be modified in the Tinkerer Workbench. So, there’s no need to equip the bait or the Fishing Rod, and fishing can be done automatically when approaching a body of water.
How To Fish In Fallout 76
To start fishing in Fallout 76, approach any body of water and check if the fishing command appears next to the usual interface pop-ups: Drink / Fish / Collect, then hold the button to draw the Fishing Rod and press A (PC) to toggle between baits. Now, follow these steps to get fish:
- Wait until the buoy sinks, and Reel In.
- Move the direction keys so that the colored triangle matches the direction in which the fish is pulling.
- Hold the correct direction until the fish reaches the middle dot on the radar to catch it.
If players run out of bait, they can get more from the Mirelurk NPC. He sells 1 bait per 5 Caps, so a total of 500 caps for 100 Bait. And if they follow the fishing quest handled by Captain Raymond, they will be able to cook Fish Bits and Grilled Fish in their Cooking Stations, and meet Linda Lee, a friendly and cute new NPC who will exchange their produce for legendary weapons and armor. It’s a fun event ideal for those who want to relax and catch some (irradiated) seafood.
