You’d think the hype has died down, but nothing could be further from the truth. As it turns out, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was among Steam’s Top 3 best-sellers in May 2025. And it is not stopping!
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is not even two months old and is breaking records left and right. It managed to sell one million copies mere three days after the release, two million copies twelve days after the release, and a total of 3.3 million copies sold 33 days after the release. That counts both PC and console sales. And now, Steam reports that Clair Obscur was among the top 3 of their best-sellers for the month of May.

For a single-player game with a completed story, you’d think that the hype has peaked upon release and that the interest will gradually fall. But word-of-mouth and universal praise are doing their part, and Clair Obscur is still selling, as more and more people want to see what the fuss is about. Every player has managed to get at least one of their friends to try it out, if not more.
According to Rhys Elliott, a respected market analyst, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the third best-selling game on Steam in May 2025, only surpassed by R.E.P.O. and Elden Ring Nightreign. Both of these games are multiplayer, and those tend to sell better. Add the fact that R.E.P.O. is pretty cheap to come by, and that Elden Ring already has a huge fanbase. For a game that is “new” to the market, this is a huge deal. Clair Obscur managed to surpass Schedule 1, another zany multiplayer game, and even the famous Oblivion Remaster.

“Expedition 33 sold more copies on Steam in May (another million!) than it did in its launch month, thanks to the game’s word-of-mouth snowballing. And sales aren’t slowing down as much as you’d expect, so expect a long tail,” said Elliot.
Let’s not forget the fact that Nintendo Switch 2 just came out, which will boost the sales even further, and we’re all expecting a DLC at some point. The popularity of Clair just keeps rising, and we expect a couple more million sales in the future, at the least. Hats off to Sandfall.
