One Piece Chapter 1184 Preview: Brook and Candelle’s Past

Following the release of One Piece 1183 in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #26 on May 24, 2026, all eyes are now on One Piece Chapter 1184, especially as it has now been officially confirmed that there is not going to be any break for the manga anytime soon. One Piece Chapter 1184 is set for a major release in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump issue #27 on May 31, 2026, which falls on the upcoming weekend.

This chapter is finally going to take us on a deep dive into Brook’s backstory after finally beginning it, following a one-year setup by the author Eiichiro Oda. Now is the time for Brook’s connection with the likes of Shuri, who serves as the current Gunko in the order of the Holy Knights, as well as Queen Candelle, who was officially introduced in the latest chapter release on May 24, to finally be elaborated upon, and that is something I am eagerly waiting to see.

One Piece Chapter 1184 Will Continue Brook’s Backstory

One Piece Chapter 1184 is expected to continue the backstory of Brook and Shuri, both of whom are central to the overarching plotline of the Elbaph arc of the story. Brook officially began explaining the story of his past with Shuri in the last chapter, and we have only scratched the surface so far. The next few chapters are likely to be focused on Brook’s past in the Esperia Kingdom from 70 years ago. As was seen in One Piece Chapter 1183, Brook served as the leader of the Raider Squad for the Esperia Kingdom and served directly under King Reuven of the country. This king is an individual whom Brook says he owes everything in life to. I’m curious to see what role he ends up playing in Brook’s life, because so far, the two seem to be on friendly terms with a certain rivalry over the Queen Candelle, whose charm was officially expanded upon greatly in One Piece Chapter 1183.

In One Piece Chapter 1183, it was officially stated that Lady Candelle was the former leader of the Battle Convoy of the music kingdom of Esperia that doesn’t exist anymore. She’s most certainly going to be incredibly important moving forward and will certainly attract unwanted attention from all those who seek to make her their own. The Moulon Family was officially introduced in the previous chapter in their latest attempt to get Candelle, but with Brook’s Three-Pace Hum Notch Slash, they were taken all out in a single blow.

“It’s going to be fine, boss. For one thing, she’s very strong. They can’t take her away!! Plus, well, I’m rather stunned they haven’t noticed yet. You see, by the time they left the port, I’d already cut them all.” – Brook, One Piece Chapter #1183

That said, their leader, the Don, has not been introduced in the story yet, and One Piece Chapter 1184 might finally address that as Eiichiro Oda expands upon the story of both Candelle and Brooke.

Candelle and Brook’s Fight in Skills Will Get Attention From The Author

One Piece Chapter 1183 ended on a very strong note, highlighting Brook and Lady Candelle as the protagonists of the flashback. While Brook led the Raider Squad within the battle convoy of the Kingdom of Esperia, Candelle held tremendous strength that was enough to see her spearhead the entirety of the Battle Convoy of the kingdom itself. These two stood on opposing ends and were both incredibly powerful, as well as lovers of music. As to what their past connection is and what their personal relationship was like, we will simply have to wait and see in which direction Oda develops the story.

One Chapter 1184 might set them up as two rivals, both famed with the blade and equally good with music. This rivalry is what could have sparked love for Candelle in Brooke’s heart, and that is certainly exciting to see. In either case, the general plotline has already been set, as Shuri and Kendel will likely head to the Holy Land of Marijoa along with the King for a Reverie and then face eventual demise, for which Shuri will end up taking the vast majority of the blame.

The Holy Knights Could Take An Interest In Esperia Kingdom

One Piece chapter 1184 could also reintroduce the Holy Knights to the overarching plotline of this flashback. The Holy Knights are individuals that Brook is very well aware of. When they were first introduced in Elbaf, Brook was the only individual who knew of them. This means that he has had personal contact with them at some point in the past.

One Piece chapter 1183 also saw Brook officially state that Princess Shuri went to the Holy Land of Marijoa and there, lost contact with the Kingdom of Esperia, which doesn’t exist anymore. As such, the Holy Knights certainly are going to play a significant role in this flashback sooner or later, and we might even see a few more of their members.

This would also serve the plot in intriguing ways by expanding on the overarching mysterious narrative built around the Holy Knights by the author. Perhaps a Holy Knight member could fall in love with Lady Candelle, and that could in turn set up Esperia gaining allegiance with the World Government and then attending a Reverie, where everything would fall into ruin.

One Piece 1184 Could Finally Set Up The Esperia Incident

Most importantly, One Piece Chapter 1184 could set up the Esperia Incident, just like the God Valley incident that took place in the world of One Piece 38 years ago. In the previous chapter, Brook officially stated that he comes from the Esperia Kingdom, which does not exist anymore. This means that Esperia was destroyed, just like God Valley, long ago in the past.

As such, something tremendous must have happened on this island that Brook comes from. When connecting it to Princess Shuri being taken into the ranks of the Celestial Dragons and being brainwashed, as well as Candelle completely disappearing and the death of the King, who is stated to have been killed by Shuri himself, the plot is quite simple to understand. Just like how Rocks D. Xebec was Domi Reversed in God Valley, something similar likely happened in Esperia 70 years ago.

It will be interesting to see in which direction the story will unfold from here on, but all things point towards this majestic flashback concluding with the Esperia Incident, where a whole country will come to ruin and Brook will be left without anyone to turn to. This will eventually tie into the formation of the Rumbar Pirates and Brook joining Yorkie, with whom he spent a significant portion of his life after.
