Thanks to Eiichiro Oda’s hard work, One Piece has no shortage of interesting characters. Oda has poured hours into creating a rich world where every character feels like they have a real place within. It’s no surprise that so many One Piece characters have made and left such a strong impression on fans of the series.
Unfortunately, One Piece has a bad habit of hyping up characters and failing to pay off that hype. Some One Piece characters were hyped up as being extremely powerful. But when the time came, it was confirmed that they were nothing but failures. While a few of them did have feats, they weren’t nearly enough to erase their failures.
One Piece Characters Who Lived Up To The Hype
Living up to the hype is no easy task, but these One Piece characters managed to do it.

Hody Jones
- Introduced In Fishman Island
After the time skip, the Straw Hat Pirates reunited on Sabaody and continued their journey. Eventually, they arrived at Fishmen Island, where the crew came face-to-face again with Hody.
Hody was a hateful character who wanted to increase the divide between humans and Fish-Men. He stuck to his ideals, no matter the cost. There is no doubt that Hody was an amazing villain, but he was disappointing as an opponent. Luffy could have easily beaten him if the fight hadn’t taken place underwater.

Gecko Moria
- Introduced In Thriller Bark
Moria is a former Shichibukai who debuted in the Thriller Bark arc. He was introduced as a pirate who rivaled Kaido, which was an insane feat. Naturally, there was a great deal of hype surrounding Moria, and fans expected him to be an incredible fighter.
Sadly, his performance was underwhelming. Despite having decades worth of experience, Moria was beaten by the Straw Hat Pirates, who had no knowledge of Haki.

Charlotte Smoothie
- Introduced In Whole Cake Island
When Luffy faced off against Cracker, it made the fans realize that Yonko commanders are no joke and are meant to be taken seriously. But all of that changed when the second Sweet Commander Smoothie was introduced. She was barely useful in the arc.
In fact, several lower-ranked individuals on Big Mom’s made a far bigger impact on the story than her. She was given another opportunity in the Wano Country arc, but unfortunately, she couldn’t do much when Marco sent the Big Mom Pirates’ ship down the waterfall.

Jack The Drought
Jack was a ruthless pirate who razed Zou to the ground and even tortured its people. He had some strength feats to his name, but they were all overshadowed by his defeats. He was defeated too many times in the story.
Jack was beaten by Sengoku, Tsuru, and later by Inuarashi. While it’s not Jack’s fault that he had to fight so many high-level fighters, it’s not possible to ignore the losses.
One Piece: Every Known Devil Fruit Without A User
Although Devil Fruits are the most common aspect of the One Piece power system, there are a few that exist without a user.

Orochi
- Introduced In Wano Country
Orochi was the tyrant who ruled over the people of Wano. Before the Straw Hats entered Wano, Orochi was portrayed as a strong character who possessed a mythical Zoan devil fruit.
After his debut, it became painfully clear that Orochi was nothing but a weak, pathetic man who rose to power through deception. Despite having multiple lives, Orochi failed to achieve anything meaningful.

King Elizabello II
Elizabello was introduced during the Dressrosa arc, where he was participating in the tournament for the Mera Mera no Mi. He was hyped due to his infamous King Punch, which was said to be so strong that it could take down a Yonko.
This made the move a topic for debate. Fans were surprised by the claims that Elizabello had the power to rival a Yonko. But ultimately, it turned out that the claim was greatly exaggerated.
2
The Numbers
- Introduced In Wano Country
The Beasts Pirates are one of the strongest crews in the entire series. What makes them so dangerous is that almost all of them have Devil Fruit. It also had strong officers who were infamous pirates in the New World.

Eustass Kidd
- Introduced In Sabaody Archipelago
Kidd was one of the most infamous pirates in the world, and at one point, his bounty was greater than Luffy’s. His downfall began when he entered the New World. Ben Beckman cut off his arm, and not long afterward, he was beaten black and blue by Kaido.
After redeeming himself in Wano, Kid foolishly challenged Shanks in Elbaf. The result was obvious: the Kid lost horribly. He even had to give up his Road Poneglyphs.
