RuneScape: Dragonwilds was a big hit when it came out in early access in April, despite the game currently holding a “Mixed” rating on Steam. Upon release, this bold expansion of the RuneScape universe into an open-world survival crafting game sold 600,000 copies and peaked at 52,641 concurrent players. The game remains in early access, and the developer plans to keep working on it at least until early 2026—while continuing to push out updates to improve Dragonwilds. The 0.8.0 update is an important patch many players may have been waiting for, and while several details had been disclosed, its specific release date had remained under wraps—until now.

RuneScape: Dragonwilds update 0.8.0 is officially releasing on June 17, as confirmed by the developer in a recent YouTube video. Alongside the release date, Jagex confirmed some of the previously teased features that the “It’s a Kind of Magic” update will bring, including exciting additions like Magic, defensive structures, and a rebalancing of backpacks and items. Moreover, die-hard players will be pleased to know that update 0.8.0 will also introduce a new “Hardcore” difficulty, which, according to the developer, is “designed to give you a bit of a challenge.”
RuneScape: Dragonwilds Update 0.8.0 Launches June 17
This new difficulty will test RuneScape: Dragonwilds players’ skills by pitting them against tougher enemies with more health and increased damage output. Additionally, when players die, they’re only allowed to drop one gravestone containing all their items—if they die again, they lose everything on that gravestone. Players will also lose any XP progression upon death, which can complicate things if they’re about to reach the next level and suddenly die.
While RuneScape: Dragonwilds has already rolled out updates since its release, this new patch encompasses a wealth of features that Jagex promises will significantly enhance the game. The developer encourages players to provide feedback to help continue improving the experience. In addition to the June 17 release date, Jagex also noted that players should look forward to more information on future updates coming later this year.
