Sony Lifted the Region Lock! Helldivers 2 Community Celebrates and the CEO of Arrowhead Teases the Review-Bomb Cape

Finally! It’s time to celebrate and welcome new Helldivers… from all over the world! On the evening of June 13, SONY finally ended the region lock, surprising everyone, including the Helldivers 2 developer, Arrowhead.

The Region Lock Has Been Lifted, Surprising Helldivers and Arrowhead Devs

It’s been more than a year since 177 countries were region-locked. That means that the game couldn’t be purchased on Steam in those “banned” regions. Back in January 2025, SONY lifted the ban on more than 40 regions, leaving around 130 regions still locked.

Well, that seemingly changed on June 13! We say seemingly, as there hasn’t been an official announcement yet, as of the time of writing this article. According to SteamDB, only seven countries remain region-locked: Belarus, North Korea, Vietnam, Cuba, the Russian Federation, Iran, and Syria.

This came as a surprise to everyone. By the looks of it, not even the Arrowhead devs were aware that SONY would lift the region lock on Helldivers 2. The CEO of Arrowhead, Shams Jorjani, took to Discord and chatted with the players, asking them for more information.

He also mentioned the infamous “Review Bomb” cape. If you are relatively new to Helldivers 2, when this whole controversy broke, the devs promised they’d gift the Review Bomb cape to players once the region lock was lifted.

Jorjani noted: “I’ll talk to the team next week. But we always felt it was something to give away once regions returned. PS has been working hard on this so a cape to celebrate is in order”.

Obviously, the players were extremely happy about the news! Social media is overflowing with posts welcoming new players, while Helldivers worldwide celebrate. Truth be told, we can’t wait for the influx of new players!

Pleidoscope stated: “This is great news! I’m glad we’ll finally be able to get some more reinforcements! Maybe we’ll also get that cape”. Another player, SeptembersBud, added: “Reinforcements inbound! Let’s show fascism/socialism/theological dictatorships how it is done”.
