Lego’s awesome 540-piece Piranha Plant building set is on sale for only $36 (was $60) at Amazon, Walmart, and Target. We expected the 40% discount on this Lego Super Mario display model to disappear on Monday, but it’s actually available at more retailers than before. Best Buy featured the Piranha Plant in its weekend doorbuster sale, and Amazon quickly matched the deal. But while Best Buy indeed raised the price back to $60 when the sale ended, Amazon’s deal remained available and has since been joined by matching deals at Walmart and Target.
It’s unclear when the discount will expire at these retailers; Target mentions December 10 on its store page, but end dates at Target aren’t always reliable. You can get free shipping at all three retailers, and the Piranha Plant will arrive with plenty of time to spare before Christmas.
$36 (was $60)
Based on one of Mario’s best-known enemies, the 540-piece Piranha Plant Lego building set has multiple posable elements, including an opening/closing mouth, a bendable vine, and two leaves that can be angled in different directions. The set also comes with two (fake) coins that can be hidden inside the Piranha Plant’s mouth.
Just like in the video games, the Piranha Plant Lego set has a buildable green warp pipe as its base. This is essentially an artificial potted plant for Nintendo fans. The completed Piranha Plant measures 9 x 4.5 x 6.5 inches.
It’s worth mentioning that the Piranha Plant is one of three Lego Mario display models that does not interact with the Mario, Luigi, and Peach figures from the Lego Super Mario and Mario Kart Starter Sets. The other two are Mario & Standard Kart and the replica Game Boy, both of which launched this year.
The Piranha Plant is one of eight Lego Nintendo models geared toward adults. Amazon has a deal on one of the other display models in the lineup. Super Mario World: Mario & Yoshi, a pixel art model based on the classic Super Nintendo platformer, is on sale for $105 (was $130) at Amazon and Target. This deal was also available at Walmart, but the set is currently sold out on Walmart’s online store.

The most recent Lego Nintendo display model is the 421-piece Lego Game Boy. The extremely popular replica of the original 1989 Game Boy DMG retails for $60. It comes with two brick-built Game Paks–The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening and Super Mario Land–as well as buildable display stands for the handheld and one cartridge. The Lego Game Boy has yet to receive a discount, but it is sure to be one of the most popular Lego gifts this holiday.
If you’re interested in collecting the Nintendo display models for adults, restocks of The Mighty Bowser Lego set should be on your radar. The 2,807-piece set is retiring soon, and it’s already sold out at most retailers. Amazon restocked The Mighty Bowser for its regular $270 price during Cyber Week, but it’s once again sold out as of December 10. The two other large Lego Nintendo sets that have already been discontinued–the Nintendo Entertainment System and Super Mario 64 Question Block–routinely sell for well above MSRP.
Here’s a list of the Lego Nintendo display models released so far, including the ultra-popular Game Boy replica, which joined the Piranha Plant as the only other Lego Nintendo display model priced below $100. The 421-piece Lego Game Boy is in stock for $60 at Amazon.
Lego Super Mario & Mario Kart Deals

There are several other notable Lego Super Mario and Mario Kart playset deals to check out during Cyber Week. Captain Toad’s Camp is only $10 (was $15) and Party at Toad’s House is down to $24 (was $30). These are two of the newest Lego Super Mario playsets. You can also save on multiple retired Super Mario sets, including Battle with Roy at Peach’s Castle, which is on sale for $48.74 (was $65). Picnic at Mario’s House is only two bucks off, but it retired at the beginning of the year and was sold out for a long time.
Target has several exclusive Lego Mario sets, including the 453-piece Peach’s Garden Balloon Ride. The rarely discounted playset comes with buildable figures of Pink Yoshi, Blue Toad, and Pom Pom. It’s the only Lego Mario set featuring Pom Pom. Target is selling Peach’s Garden Balloon Ride for $50 (was $60) for a limited time.
Multiple Lego Mario Kart racing sets are on sale as well. Most notably, the soon-to-be retired Donkey Kong & DK Jumbo is $23.49 (was $35) and the Wario & King Boo double pack shown above is on sale for the first time.
