We are about to lose some players, as the dreaded June 19 Update has just been announced. Nexon said that they will end the support for Last Gen consoles, and that time is now, as the 1.2.20 update has just been announced, which will, among improvements and bug fixes, finally terminate The First Descendant support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Right from the get-go, The First Descendant was playable on the PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X and S, so the players on every platform could enjoy Nexon’s most popular game. But, it is a harsh reality that some consoles will get outdated, and exactly that is slowly happening with Xbox One and PS4. As it turns out, it is quite an effort for Nexon to keep supporting those Last Gen consoles, so they have decided to cut their losses and gradually terminate the support for these platforms. And now, we have reached the final stage.
Nexon Announced The First Descendant 1.2.20 Update, Heralding the End of Last Gen Support
On June 17, the TFD team announced the next update. Scheduled for June 19, Nexon was traditionally vague on what to expect.
Patch Preview
- Update 1.2.20
- Content Improvements
- Bug Fixes
- Added 2 new in-game events
Everything but the events is business as usual, and we will find out more just before the release. The events were revealed in the last devlive:
- Burning Summer Attendance – “Provides various rewards including the Ines’ Twisted Worship Skin for 6 weeks of attendance.”
- Burning Summer Training – “Provides a variety of Growth Items based on Mission completions.”
However, back in March, Nexon announced that they would gradually end their support for Last Gen consoles (PS4/Xbox One). “The dev team does experience difficulties; we made lot effort in sustaining the build for PS4 and Xbox One. But since Season 3 is a ‘mega season’ update for us, and what we wanted to do is really focus our development team on increasing the satisfaction of the content, so this was a hard decision for us,” said the devs during the March 6 broadcast.
The final termination is scheduled for the June 19 Update, which has just been announced. While the PS4/Xbox One playerbase is not huge, it still hurts to lose some players. Hopefully, this decision will pay dividends in the future.
