Order 5 of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach introduces you to BT combat for the first time, and you’ll need to clear a large group of these ghostly creatures on the way to the former geophysics lab where an old friend awaits. This is one of the first combat-heavy missions of Death Stranding 2, but it’s not too hard to handle if you bring the right equipment.
If you played the first Death Stranding, then you should already have an idea of how to defeat BTs. They’re weak to Sam’s bodily fluids, so Blood Grenades will make quick work of them. Fortunately, the crafting recipe for Blood Grenades is unlocked right before this mission, so you will have access to everything you need to clear the area.

Stealth knockdowns are an important part of stealth in Death Stranding 2. Here’s how players can perform them.
Best Route for Order 5 in Death Stranding 2
Since you need to defeat all of the BTs in the area in order to complete this mission, there really isn’t an ideal route to take for Order 5 in Death Stranding 2. The BTs are located directly west of the C1 South Distribution Center that you just visited in Order 4, and then the former geophysics research lab is directly south of them. It’s actually not that far of a walk, but you’ll need to make a quick pit stop for the BTs.
Before you head out, though, you should take the time to prepare. Bring plenty of Blood Grenades; otherwise, you’ll have no way to defend yourself against the BTs. Blood Grenades are fabricated in stacks of five, so you only need to craft two or three in total, and you’ll have more than enough for the situation ahead. You should also fabricate a PCC to build a Timefall Shelter later on. Bringing a Blood Bag for healing is also a good idea.
How to Defeat the Order 5 BTs in Death Stranding 2
Once you get to the area with the BTs, take a quick detour to the marked aid request spot on your map to build a Timefall Shelter with a PCC. Open your weapon wheel using right on the D-Pad, find the PCC in the tools section, and then use it to construct a Timefall Shelter. This will protect your packages from the rain, allowing you to safely offload your backpack before you start fighting the BTs.
Once you’ve safely stashed your stuff (minus your Blood Grenades and essentials), head into the ruins to start hunting for BTs. You won’t be able to see the BTs until you get close enough to them, so crouch with the R1 button and slowly sneak around so you can spot them before they spot you. You need to eliminate every single BT in the area before moving on.
Each BT should take about two Blood Grenades to defeat. You can tap the R2 button to perform a short underhand throw, or you can hold the R2 button to pitch them like a fastball straight at the BTs.
Even though these grenades release a big cloud of blood, you need to hit the BTs with them directly to do the most damage. You’ll know they have been defeated when they let out a ghostly wail and start floating upward.
How to Get to the Former Geophysics Research Lab in Death Stranding 2
Once the BTs have been eliminated, your next objective is to deliver the prototype MP bullets to the research lab on the hill. Go back to the Timefall Shelter and grab your belongings, then start marching south to the lab. It’s not very far at all, and the path isn’t very difficult to traverse. Use the Odradek scanner to analyze the terrain before trying to climb up any steep rock formations just in case, though.
At the top of the hill, you can deliver the package and complete the order. You’ll be rewarded with some likes based on your performance, and you’ll unlock upgraded MP bullets that work on BTs in addition to humans. Those would’ve been helpful a few moments ago, but it is what it is.
