Dave the Diver: In the Jungle features a variety of insects that can be found and caught in Utara Village, the Sand Dunes, Setah Forest, Surga Falls, and Murau Temple. Players will ultimately track the bugs they catch through the Insectagram app, and there are rewards to be earned for hunting them down.
This guide lists every insect and bug location in Dave the Diver: In the Jungle, helping players find all the butterflies, moths, cicadas, beetles, and other creatures. It also explains how to unlock the Bug Net and Insectagram, how beetle battles work, and where to farm rare beetle spawns.
How to Unlock the Bug Net and Catch Bugs in Dave the Diver In the Jungle
Players unlock the Bug Net during Lipah’s Fireflies, a sub mission that can be started by speaking with Lipah during Chapter 2. Once Dave has the Bug Net, he can begin catching bugs, and players will need to track down some fireflies to complete Lipah’s request.
To use the Bug Net, approach an insect and press the input that appears over it. This is easiest to do with butterflies, as Dave can walk right up to them without scaring them off immediately. Some insects will quickly run or fly away, though, and players will need to slowly creep up on them before using the net.
How to Unlock the Insectagram and Beetle Battles
During Chapter 3, players can find a beetle on a tree with an exclamation mark. Attempting to catch that beetle tears the Bug Net and starts The Torn Bug Net sub mission. This causes Udo to arrive, unlocks the Insectagram app on Dave’s phone, and gives players access to beetle battles. Udo also gives Dave a Lesser Stag Beetle to start beetle battling.
The Insectagram app tracks the bugs and insects that Dave has caught, allowing players to keep an eye on how many they are missing. It also makes noise when Dave is near a bug that has not been caught yet, though players can turn off that audio cue through the Insectagram app.
Udo has a shop where he sells three beetles every day. He also sells Insect Jelly, which can be used to heal beetles that have been downed in battle. Beetles recover when Dave sleeps, though, so players do not always need to spend Doni on jelly.
All Insect and Bug Locations in Dave the Diver In the Jungle
Insects spawn around Utara Village, Setah Forest, Murau Temple, the Sand Dunes, and Surga Falls. Players will gain access to Setah Forest and Murau Temple during Chapter 3, while Surga Falls becomes accessible during the Cinta, Food of Memories sub mission.
Players will not always find an insect in the indicated area, as there is some randomness to bug spawns, and some insects appear to be quite rare. If a bug is not appearing in the right location, return to the area on another day and check again.
The following table lists the bugs in the order established by the Insectagram. Insects up to and including the Atlas Moth can be found flying around and are caught in mid-air. Beetles starting with the Lesser Stag Beetle are associated with the beetle battle feature, and they are found on tree trunks and walls.

Where Are the Sand Dunes in Dave the Diver In the Jungle?
The Sand Dunes refer to the beach west of Utara Village, the area just below the Shooting Range, and the area near the entrance to Surga Falls. Several insects and beetles can appear in this region, including the Loquinianus Swallowtail, Striata Stag Beetle, Gideon Beetle, and Stevens’ Stag Beetle.
How to Farm Beetles in Murau Temple and Setah Forest
A reliable way to look for missing Murau Temple and Setah Forest beetles is to repeatedly refresh beetle spawn points by entering and exiting the temple. Go into Murau Temple, interact with the beetles on the walls in B1 and B2, ride an elevator to F1, and go outside. Then, interact with the beetle on the tree at the temple entrance, head back inside, and repeat the process to find new bugs.
This method may not reveal every Setah Forest beetle, but it is the best way to repeatedly check for rare beetles like Rosenberg’s Golden Stag Beetle and Caucasus Beetle.
How Beetle Battles Work
Beetle battles are unlocked when Udo arrives during The Torn Bug Net sub mission, and they center around sending one of the beetles in Dave’s possession into a fight with one found in the environment. Every beetle has an attack stat, an HP stat, and a type, which players can see when deciding which beetle to use.
These fights play out like rock paper scissors. Players select Rock, Paper, or Scissors every round, and the outcome is determined by how that selection stacks up against the opponent’s choice. Specifically, the beetle that chooses the winning throw gets the full effect of its selection.
For example, Paper beats Rock, so Dave’s beetle will get the full effect of its healing if it chooses Paper, a defensive move, when the opponent picks Rock, an offensive move. Similarly, Dave’s beetle will deal full damage if it picks Rock and the opponent throws Scissors. The beetle with the highest HP after 10 rounds wins.
If both beetles choose the same offensive move, the difference between their attack stats is dealt to the beetle with the lower attack stat. For example, if Dave’s beetle has 15 attack, the opponent has 13 attack, and they both throw Rock, two damage will be dealt to the opposing beetle.
If both beetles choose Paper, they both heal for the full amount.
One final thing to know is that beetles get a bonus when the player’s selection matches their type. For example, a Rock-type beetle gets a boost to its attack stat when Rock is picked. This bonus can help push some extra damage, especially when battling a beetle with a very similar attack stat, though it usually does not determine the entire fight.
How to Win Beetle Battles
Beetles vary dramatically in power level, and the first ones players get from Udo are quite weak. This means Dave will not be able to take on the toughest beetles immediately, and players will need to spend some time working their way up the ladder. The basic strategy is to use a starter beetle to beat a slightly stronger one, then use that beetle to beat an even stronger opponent, and continue from there.
While players can take several paths, this is one possible progression route:
- Buy a Five-Horned Rhinoceros Beetle from Udo.
- Use it to beat a Striata Stag Beetle in the Sand Dunes or a Gideon Beetle in the Sand Dunes or Setah Forest.
- Use the new beetle to beat a Giraffe Stag Beetle in Setah Forest.
- Use the new beetle to beat an Antaeus Stag Beetle or Metallic Stag Beetle in Murau Temple.
- Use the new beetle to beat a Giant Stag Beetle in Setah Forest.
When trying to beat a slightly tougher opponent, a little luck can be required. However, if players send in a beetle with a type that beats or matches the opponent’s type, they can often win by repeatedly choosing the move aligned with their beetle’s type.

How to Heal Beetles
Beetles that are downed in combat can be healed with Insect Jelly, which is sold by Udo. Players can use Insect Jelly when selecting a beetle to send into battle. Beetles also recover when Dave sleeps and starts the next day.
Because beetles heal overnight, Insect Jelly is only useful when players want to do several beetle battles in a row without waiting until the next day.
