After 3 Years, Jujutsu Kaisen Is Finally Welcoming Back Gojo Satoru

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the most prominent Shonen series of all time. Created by Gege Akutami in 2018, the manga has become one of the best-selling series of all time, though it’s exciting battles, but most importantly, its sensational anime adaptation by Studio Mappa.

The brilliant anime adaptation of Jujutsu Kaisen by Mappa debuted in 2020, and its popularity since has grown to unprecedented levels. MAPPA has been going all out with this IP, and earlier today, on June 19, 2026, it unveiled the official trailer for JJK Season 4, which will finally see the return of the fan-favorite character after 3 long years of absence — Gojo Satoru. Gojo was sealed during the events of the Shibuya Incident arc, but his return is now closer than ever before.

New Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 Trailer Reveal Sets Up The Official Return Of Gojo Satoru

Jujutsu Kaisen is a shonen manga series by Gege Akutami. This manga made its debut on March 5, 2018, in Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #14. The series went on to be serialized for a few years before reaching its conclusion with Volume 30 on September 30, 2024. The series’ run was short, but it was massively successful. On October 3, 2020, the series was picked up and adapted into a TV anime by the acclaimed MAPPA Studio. Jujutsu Kaisen returned with Season 2 in 2023 and, more recently, Season 3 in 2026. The series still has a lot to offer, and the next big project is Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4, which stands as Part 2 of the Culling Game.

On June 19, 2026, MAPPA held a major event on the occasion of its 15th Anniversary, and as expected, Jujutsu Kaisen was a major highlight as one of the studio’s biggest anime. During this event, Jujutsu Kaisen finally unveiled its newest trailer for Season 4. This new trailer highlighted one controversial JJK artifact tied to Gojo — the Prison Realm. As we know, Gojo Satoru was sealed into this Special Grade Cursed Artifact during the Shibuya Incident Arc. In the anime, the tragedy unfolded in Season 2, Episode 9, while in the manga, it happened in Chapter 90. This cursed object was able to subdue the world’s strongest sorcerer for quite some time, but now his return is imminent. The new Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4 trailer focused on this object for a big reason, and that’s because Gojo will finally be unsealed in the upcoming Season 4, near the end.

“We should also free Gojo sensei. That guy could settle everything all on his own.” — Megumi sets up the goal to free Gojo Satoru, JJK Season 3

There have already been rumors about Gojo unsealing at the end of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 4, and based on the progression and pacing seen in Season 3, he is officially set to make it out by the end of the next season. Gojo’s unsealing would be a perfect cliffhanger and would set up major battles after. This means in the anime, Gojo will be free once more in 2027.

In the manga, Gojo was unsealed in JJK chapter 221. In that sense, we already know what’s going to happen in Season 4 of the anime, including how Gojo will be freed. With that being said, the anime itself has already revealed the answer as to how Satoru will make it out of the cube. In Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 Episode 2 (JJK chapter 145 in the manga), it was revealed that there are three ways to free Gojo without the consent of Kenjaku, who trapped him in there in the first place. With the use of the backroom that is in the possession of Tengen, there are a few options to explore:

  • The first way is to use the Inverted Spear of Heaven that was previously wielded by Toji Fushiguro. That spear can cancel cursed abilities, which is why it could break Gojo out. Sadly, it has been disposed of by Gojo himself after killing Toji in the Flashback arc.
  • The second way Gojo could be freed is via the Black Rope. The Black Rope is a Cursed Tool crafted by Miguel Oduol’s Clan in Africa, and it can also cancel out cursed techniques. Unfortunately, just like the first option, it was also taken by Gojo.

“The authority to open the gate rests with Kenjaku as the bearer of the ‘Front.’ Breaking it open requires either the Inverted Spear of Heaven, which nullifies cursed techniques, or the Black Rope, which disrupts and cancels cursed technique effects.” — Tengen in JJK Chapter #145

It might seem like Gojo’s fate is sealed, but one more way remains to save him, and that is via the Cursed Technique of Angel. Angel is a reincarnated sorcerer from the Heian era, and her Technique Extinguishment power can negate Cursed Techniques. With her powers, Gojo will finally be set free and able to participate in the ongoing battle of Jujutsu Kaisen. But to do that, the sorcerers have to find her and get her to their side, which is going to unfold in the upcoming season.

“Among the players participating in the Culling Game is a sorcerer from a thousand years ago who calls herself an Angel. Her cursed technique can extinguish any cursed technique.” — Tengen in JJK chapter #145
