This is one of those things that are definitely worth the wait! It’s been more than a year since the infamous review bomb “victory”, and the Helldivers 2 players are finally getting the Pillars of Freedom cape they were promised. So, let’s dive in and check out all the details!
The Pillars of Freedom Cape Drops in Helldivers 2
On June 27, Baskinator, the Community Manager, happily announced the great news on the official Helldivers 2 Discord server. She revealed that the new cape was released and the players would be getting it soon”.
Baskinator noted: “In honor of their unquestioning commitment to the defense of Managed Democracy, the Helldivers have been awarded a commemorative cape. The new uniform piece will be available in all Super Destroyer Armories as soon as the rollout is complete”.
As always, she clarified that it might take a little while before all Helldivers received the cape. She explained: “This cape will be awarded to all existing players. As with our previous item rollouts, please allow some time for the item to arrive in your inbox”.

Now, the design of this cape is quite cool. It depicts the negative Steam reviews the game received during the whole PSN debacle. Even though the cape was leaked a couple of days ago, the community was still head over heels for the design. The cape’s in-game description reads: “Woven in honor of our loyal Helldivers, whose heart’s blood is the foundation on which Super Earth is built”.

One player, ironvultures, stated: “It’s glorious! Gonna be a challenge to decide between this cape, the Super Earth defence cape, and the old Malevelon Creek cape”. Another player, Illustrious_Ad6138, added: “Another victory for the right side of history”.
What Was the PSN Account Controversy?
All the way back around the beginning of May 2024, SONY announced that only players signed in with a PSN account could play Helldivers 2. They gave the players who didn’t have a PSN account a deadline to make one and connect it. This caused quite a chaos.
Players worldwide review-bombed the game, and SONY had to give in. Obviously, the community asked Arrowhead for a cape to commemorate their “victory”, and the devs teased they were working on it.
However, even though the players no longer needed a PSN account, the game became unavailable for purchase in almost 200 regions. Arrowhead devs noted they wouldn’t release the cape until the region lock was lifted.
Well, on June 13, the region lock was lifted! The Helldivers 2 devs obviously stayed true to their promise and issued the aptly named Pillars of Freedom cape two weeks later. Truth be told, it was such a long journey, but it was worth the wait! Not for the cape, but for the fact that new Helldivers are now able to join the Second Galactic War.
So, dear Helldiver, join us on the bot front! We hope to see many Helldivers sporting this cape and celebrating together! And what better way to celebrate than to defeat the new-and-improved Jet Brigade for the Major Order? Also, if you want to participate, the Save the Children fundraiser lasts until June 28. For Liberty and Super Earth.
