Capcom has announced a new Spotlight showcase scheduled for later this week. It’ll air Thursday, 25th June at 10pm UK time (11pm CEST / 2pm PDT).
Capcom has said the stream will last roughly half an hour and give us a roundup of the latest news and updates for a few games we’ve already heard a bit about. Those Capcom games are:
- Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection
- Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen
- Onimusha: Way of the Sword
Dark Arisen is the upcoming and long-hoped-for DLC for Dragon’s Dogma 2 and, fun fact, it shares the same name as the DLC from Dragon’s Dogma 1, which is a tad confusing. It also sets a high bar for this new DLC to live up to: the original Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen DLC dramatically transformed the game (I recall former Eurogamer writer Alex Donaldson telling me it elevated the experience from a 7 to a 9/10).
As for what we can expect from Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Dark Arisen, Capcom has promised “new tales and thrilling encounters” come its 9th October release. This will include a new, snow-laden area and 12 additional dungeon challenges. Also, new hairstyles – get in! – and new tattoo options will be added for your Arisen hero and NPC Pawns.
Onimusha: Way of the Sword, meanwhile, is the next mainline game in Capcom’s long-running series, and on its release hopes to transport players to 1500s-Japan. It is due on 25th September, but if you can’t wait until then there is a demo available now, across Xbox, PlayStation and PC. Our Dom previewed Onimusha: Way of the Sword last year, saying it reminded them of Nioh and Nioh 2, which is a very good thing.
Capcom has already had a very successful year with both Pragmata and Resident Evil Requiem becoming resounding hits for the studio. After years of waiting and a fair smattering of delays, Pragmata finally released in February – and it was worth the wait. The game was critically acclaimed on its debut and went on to sell 1m copies in just two days, with the number soon rising to 2m.
Resident Evil Requiem also released in February and quickly became the fastest-selling entry in the Resi series’s more than 30-year history. In April, a little less than two months after its initial release, Capcom celebrated Requiem passing 7m sales.
We awarded Resident Evil Requiem five stars on its release, with our Matt calling it “legendary horror at an all-time high” in Eurogamer’s review. Dom, meanwhile, awarded Pragmata four stars. “Emboldened by years of success, Capcom’s risky 360-era shooter dares to tackle sci-fi shooter convention in a proudly experimental gamble,” they wrote in Eurogamer’s Pragmata review.
