As video game adaptations become more and more prominent, it is only a matter of time before even the most nonsensical IPs start getting ideas about TV shows and movies.
Now, it seems Tetris is joining the fray with a CG-animated series. That is according to Insider Gaming, which reports that this Tetris show will adapt the game’s “core gameplay,” meaning we will probably see block stacking and whatnot transferred directly to our little screens.
Other information about the show is scarce, so we will have to wait and see what this adaptation will actually look like. We should note that the series seems aimed at children six and older, which implies it will be more kid-friendly, simple, and perhaps educational in character, which is quite commendable.
Being so will also differentiate Tetris from more mainstream video game adaptations that usually contain original narratives or straight-up adapt those from the games themselves.
On that note, Tetris also had a related movie made in 2023, though it was not an adaptation. It was an exploration of how the game came to be and became the global phenomenon that it is, and you should genuinely give it a look if you get the time.
As time goes by, we will likely start seeing more and more IPs announce their own movies, shows or other adaptations, since it is proving to be a rather lucrative business decision nowadays.
