In the middle of the day with the curtains drawn open
If you love horror but can only stomach its frights with the lights on, then you’re in luck. Obsession, the highest-rated horror movie of the year so far and a massive blockbuster success, is now available to watch at home.
Obsession‘s digital premium VOD release comes as a surprise as it wasn’t previously announced and Curry Barker’s film is still playing in theaters. You can rent it from digital storefronts like Amazon and Apple TV for $19.99 or purchase it for $24.99.
Those who prefer the quality a physical disc provides won’t have to wait much longer as Obsession is slated for a 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD release on July 14. No word yet on when Obsession will be available to stream from one of the million streaming apps around. It’s possible it will land on Peacock sometime this summer, but a streaming release date for Obsession has not been announced.
Obsession follows a meek young man, Bear (Michael Johnston), unable to ask his crush Nikki (Inde Navarrette) out. Out of frustration, he uses a toy to wish that she would love him more than anyone in the world. The monkey paw curls, and 2026’s best horror film follows. Obsession holds a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, ahead of Backrooms‘s 87%. Kane Parsons’ Backrooms is another of 2026’s best and is being re-released in theaters for the upcoming holiday weekend.
We greatly enjoyed Obsession, with our review saying it “pulls off the impossible: an original take on the possession horror movie.” Its run of dominance hasn’t just included positive reviews, but box office records too. It quickly crossed $300 million at the box office, and its current box office gross stands at over $370 million.
