Almost two years ago, Nintendo stated that Mario Kart Tour wouldn’t be receiving new content going forward. But that has apparently changed, as the app will see a special event next week to celebrate Mario Kart World coming out on Switch 2.
On X, the official Mario Kart Tour account posted about the special campaign that will see Mario and Luigi in mechanic outfits. In addition, four new karts are coming to the app when the event goes live on July 23. It’s set to run for two weeks, ending August 6.

The Mario Kart World special campaign will be a part of the Sunshine Tour, which originally debuted in 2023 and also occurred last summer. In September 2023, Nintendo announced that Mario Kart Tour wouldn’t receive new content updates and instead would recycle tours, such as the Sunshine Tour. In 2021, an analytics company reported that Mario Kart Tour had reached 200 million downloads as well as brought in $200 million.
Last month, Mario Kart World launched alongside Switch 2. It was reported that 79% of Switch 2 buyers also picked up the racing game. That estimated attachment rate was undoubtedly boosted by Nintendo offering a Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World. For more, check out GameSpot’s Mario Kart World review.
