Video games are a wonderful medium if only for the sole fact that you have a direct impact on what’s going on within them, unlike movies or books.
We all need an escape into a world that we can control while the living world around us descends into chaos, sadness, or just the monotony of the everyday grind. Games are always there when you have to decompress a little bit and take your mind to a better place.
Some games, however, have the opposite effect. Let’s be honest, the last thing I need sometimes after a long or frustrating day is to hop onto Marvel Rivals and get tilted at bad teammates or toxic communications.
That’s why there are such things as comfort games, or even games that we play to boost our mood when we need it most. It could be anything from a classic singleplayer adventure, the current hot AAA title, a cozy indie game, or just about anything with a group of friends or loved ones to keep your mind off of everyday ills.
For me, when my mood is in the pits, I gravitate to singleplayer titles. For the most part, they don’t frustrate me like another human being in a multiplayer game can, so I like to lose myself in the world of a recent games like Donkey Kong Bananza, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, or a cozy game devoid of any need for effort, something like Unpacking.
And so now, I ask you, dear reader, what is the kind of game you turn to when you need to turn your mood around? Let us know in the poll and comments below, and maybe offer some suggestions for those who may be looking to try out something new in the world of positive thoughts and vibes.
