What are we all playing this weekend?

What are we all playing this weekend?

Do you hear that? That is the sound of Saturday morning, sludging heavily over your head like a bucket of gunge in a 1990s children’s game show. Don’t let that sweet weekend slime slip through your fingers. It’s time to fire up the graphical processifying machinery, or what many are calling the “personal computer”, and play some games. Here’s what we’re clicking on this weekend!

Brendan
I’ve been abandoning my PC duties (and my test tube baby) while walking over desolate lands in Death Stranding 2 on the PlayStation. I haven’t gotten very far yet, but I look forward to skipping many more boss fights so I can get back to the true joy of the game – smashing that like button as I climb ladders.

Edwin
This weekend I am going to be avoiding the very large thunderstorm that’s forecast to roll through my area, and reading about new materialism again, because I have to do thesis corrections. Unless I can’t be arsed and decide to play Transformice instead.

Graham
I’m going to be playing Donkey Kong Bananza, probably. Impressions so far: I like the way it says “ooh, banana” in a saucy voice every time you smash one of its banana gems.

James
I’m now fully back into playing DayZ again. I don’t strictly believe in games as escapism – my current reality is far preferable to one where I’m murdered on sight while eating cold beans inside an abandoned Czech outhouse. Still I dunno, there is something centering about spending hours alone in a massive stretch of mostly-nothingness.

Jeremy
I’ve been balancing my evening playthrough of Final Fantasy XII with Gotham Knights, which has become my ‘work break’ game. Ed and Liam (RPS in peace forever) didn’t like it much back in the day, but as a certified fan of caped crusader comic books I’m having a good time. The fact that I can play as Red Hood and run around Gotham shooting mooks with ‘non-lethal’ bullets is more than enough for my enjoyment, and (honest hot take incoming) I always preferred Warner Bros Montreal’s interpretation of Batman somewhat more than Rocksteady’s. (Arkham Origins secretly has the best story of any of the Batman games!)

Mark
I’m driving cars in a video game again this weekend. This is the point of no return, I’ve pretty much given up even pretending to be interesting in front of you fine people. That said, I might also play more of Rockbeasts, which I’ve just previewed and is distinctly less blandly laddish in nature than turning left and right amid machines.

Nic
I am actually worrying myself with how grimdark biege my gaming diet is becoming recently, but I’ve just got into Warhammer 40,000: Rogue Trader, so a bit of that. Also, a couple of small secret review games that have nothing to do with Boltguns. Also probably more Tall Trails. What a lovely game that is.

Ollie
Ollie is missing, presumed burning in hell for the sin of making me open MS paint on my Friday.

That’s all the gunge we have for you. If you want more you’ll have to go to the slimemarket, but don’t fall for any of those BOGOF offers near the entrance, the premium sludge is sold by the stalls at the back.

And you, reader dear, what are you playing this weekend?…
