Open-world survival crafting games are everywhere, but one of the genre’s very best is coming to PS5 on August 11. Sure, PS5 already has some of the very best open-world survival crafting games on the market, yet its upcoming addition remains hotly anticipated because it is one of the very best.
Previously, this open-world survival crafting game had been console exclusive to Xbox, as well as available on Steam, but its addition to PS5 lets it hit a much bigger audience. The good news is that it won’t just be a straight port, either, with players receiving one of the game’s biggest content drops to date.
Grounded 2 Hits PS5 on August 11
Grounded 2 has been steadily expanding through Early Access, but PS5 players have been left waiting. Earlier this summer, developer Obsidian Entertainment confirmed that the survival game sequel is officially making the jump to PlayStation 5 on August 11. Like the original Grounded, Grounded 2 has been built around community feedback throughout development. Obsidian has repeatedly emphasized that player suggestions will continue shaping the game during Early Access, with new features, balance changes, and major content additions arriving over time. That philosophy continues with the next update, which dramatically expands the map of Brookhollow Park and gives returning players a whole new region to survive too.
Find the odd one out before the timer hits zero.
Grounded 2‘s PS5 release is also paired with its Into the Abyss update, which opens up Brookhollow Park’s sprawling pond and introduces one of the biggest areas in the game. Players will be able to explore locations like the Mountains, the Bayou, and the underwater depths while unlocking new progression paths, equipment, and threats. The expansion also overhauls underwater exploration. Diving suits allow players to stay submerged longer and reach previously inaccessible areas, while returning creatures like the koi fish and diving bell spider make their comeback alongside brand-new dangers lurking beneath the surface.
Obsidian says the pond builds on everything the team learned from the original Grounded‘s underwater gameplay. Another major addition is the Toe-biter, a new amphibious Buggy for Grounded 2 that can seamlessly travel across both land and water. That opens up faster exploration around the pond area, makes hidden areas easier to reach, and gives players another way to escape the many oversized creatures roaming Brookhollow Park (which is always easier said than done).

Over on Steam, Grounded 2 has earned a 87% Very Positive reception, which feels a tad underrated, with players praising it as exactly the kind of sequel they wanted from Obsidian. Pretty much everything about the game is praised content-wise, with some fans putting toward technical issues and missing content as the only real lackluster element to the game. Altogether, August 11 is shaping up to be one of Grounded 2‘s biggest milestones yet. PlayStation 5 players will finally get to jump into the game, while existing players receive a substantial new region to explore as Obsidian continues expanding the game throughout Grounded 2‘s Early Access roadmap.
