The Dust Storm event has arrived in The Division 2, and you can win plenty of rewards over the next couple of weeks. Live until Aug. 11, you can win cosmetics chests and much more by simply grinding out this event. It also allows you to enjoy the Warlords of New York expansion for free, even if you don’t own the DLC.
The event can be perplexing if you don’t know what to do, and this guide will help you avoid those problems.
The Division 2 Dust Storm event explained
The Dust Storm event is, as you might expect, all about dust storms and enemies trying to ambush you during the event. First, you must complete the Warlords of New York expansion, which will be available for free during the event. You will experience dust storms all over New York, and they come in two different versions:
- The Calm Dust Storm will be the default weather system during the event, and it will obscure your vision and the enemies’ vision. A Calm Dust Storm will last for 18 minutes before intensifying into the Raging Dust Storm.
- The Raging Dust Storm will last for 8 minutes and make it nearly impossible for you to view things at a distance. This means that you will be vulnerable to ambushes from enemy groups. Unlike the Calm version, the Raging version will last for a whole 8 minutes.
Once a Raging Dust Storm is over, the weather might clear and become sunny, or it may again return to a Calm Dust Storm. All timers mentioned will be reset every time you log in, which gives you some control over the type of weather you want to experience.
With the dust storms come the Dust Devils, a group of Rikers ready to take advantage of the situation. You will find Dust Devil skill squads that spawn on a 6-minute timer. They will always spawn in a group of 4 named enemies with the sole objective of hunting you down.
These enemies will have certain modifiers in place. Some of those modifiers will act on your benefit, while others will act against you. You will have to make the most of the storms and the modifiers to eliminate this group.
Once you manage to remove the basic enemies, they will call for the big guns. You will have to clear 50 common enemies for a boss to spawn, but you will be able to call for backup when that happens.
There are two bosses you can encounter during the event: Pall and Black Lung. Both bosses can spawn in any weather condition so long as you reach the threshold of killing 50 named enemies. When you defeat these bosses, you will get a Storm key and a unique mask on your first defeat.
How to get Dust Storm event keys in The Division 2
Farming Storm Keys is a critical task to max out the Dust Storm event. You can exchange the Storm Keys at the event vendor to get plenty of rewards. There are three main ways to get this resource:
- Defeat Dust Devil skill squads
- Defeat Dust Devil bosses
- Defeat the scoured hunter
Keys are guaranteed with kills, but the number required reduces if you choose higher difficulty.
- Normal: 14 Kills
- Hard: 14 Kills
- Challenging: 12 Kills
- Heroic: 10 Kills
Moreover, the first 150 kills daily will have the requirement for a key reduced by half. Hence, it makes complete sense for you to fund the event daily.
Additionally, you will find 20 hidden caches to loot all over New York during the event. When you find a cache, you will need to destroy it to be rewarded with valuable events. Dust Devils will take time to repair them, so you can farm these hidden treasure chests repeatedly. Finding them in the dust storm will be difficult, but you can always use your auditory senses to trace their locations.
I will have a guide up about locations once I have found them across the map. Also keep an eye out for the Scoured Hunter, an elite enemy that can pop up randomly after a raging dust storm has ended. If you defeat this elite enemy, you’ll be rewarded with additional storm keys.

You can obtain both by exchanging stone keys with the vendor. I have mentioned all the available items that you can find in the respective chests. There are also community challenges that provide additional rewards, and these rewards can be unlocked once the community achieves certain goals.
