Grounded 2 Early Access Roadmap Explained

Grounded 2 is following in the footsteps of its predecessor with an early access period leading up to the full launch, and there are plenty of updates already planned for Obsidian’s miniaturized survival game. The Grounded 2 early access roadmap promises more substantial updates compared to the first game, so there’s a lot to look forward to.

There’s already a lot to do in Grounded 2, but a ton of system overhauls, new mechanics, and new areas are coming to the game in future patches. The new stuff ranges from performance improvements to all-new bosses and equipment, and each major update will have a healthy variety of content so all players will have something to do when a patch drops. Here’s what you can look forward to in Grounded 2 during the early access period.

Grounded 2 Early Access Roadmap

There are currently three major updates planned for Grounded 2, plus a bunch of other minor improvements slated for a later date. There will be a fall 2025 update, a winter 2025 update, and a summer 2026 update with new content to discover in the park. Other minor improvements like additional languages, new mutations, and new gear will be added to Grounded 2 periodically as well.

Grounded 2 Fall 2025 Update

The first major update for Grounded 2 is scheduled for fall 2025, just a few months after the early access launch. The big attraction of this update is AXL, a new boss that can be challenged in the park.

The addition of AXL to Grounded 2 means new weapons, armor, furniture, and crafting recipes centered around the boss, too, so it’s not just a one-and-done boss battle. Grounded 2‘s fall update will also bring various quality of life improvements to the game, including a building grid that will help you place items more precisely. Finally, this patch will allow players to use their Hotpouch on Buggies to access items more easily.

Grounded 2 Winter 2025 Update

Later this year, Grounded 2 will get a winter 2025 update with even more content. Grounded 2‘s winter 2025 update will make the game Steam Deck verified and add Steam Deck crossplay as long as you sign in with a Microsoft account. It will also add support for the ROG Ally handheld, which is perfect timing for the launch of the ROG Xbox Ally.

Playgrounds are coming to Grounded 2 with the winter update as well, letting players have fun with whatever items they want without having to grind for them in survival mode. Other new mechanics, like Sour 2.0, PEEP.R 2.0, and coziness, will also be added to the game in this update. A new area of the park is also coming in this update, but it’s hidden on the roadmap.

The Ladybug Buggy is slated to arrive in Grounded 2‘s winter update as well with some other Buggy quality-of-life improvements. Crickets and Earwigs will also be added to the park, plus new variants of existing bugs. Finally, new Tier 3 equipment and new gear like the Mushroom Set 2.0 and furniture items can be earned in the winter 2025 patch, too.

Grounded 2 Summer 2026 Update

The summer update for Grounded 2 focuses on aquatic features, but there are some surprises in store as well. A new area of the park is also coming in this update, but it’s being kept under wraps for now.

Smoothies 2.0, Swimming 2.0, and Ziplines are on the feature list for Grounded 2‘s summer 2026 update, which will pair nicely with the new watery Buggies and creatures also planned for the summer patch. Water bases will be added to the game as well, and you’ll be able to craft Tier 4 equipment and water-related gear when this update drops.

Future Plans for Grounded 2

A lot of other stuff is planned for Grounded 2, but there’s no specific date for these minor improvements on the roadmap. Passive Mutations and Active Mutations 2.0 are the main features planned for the future, and Obsidian has plenty of new Buggies planned as well. Buggy customization, Mutations, and progression will also come to the game later on.

Even more park bosses, creatures, and colossi are planned for Grounded 2, but there aren’t any concrete details about these additions just yet. The same goes for the new armors, weapons, buildings, and customization options that are currently planned for the game beyond the three major content updates. Base moving is on the list, though, so you’ll eventually be able to relocate to a new spot if you need a change of scenery.

Even more languages will also be supported for Grounded 2 in the future, and each of the planned text localizations is listed below:

  • Arabic
  • Korean
  • Polish
  • Russian
  • Thai
  • Traditional Chinese
  • Turkish

There’s a lot of content planned for Grounded 2, and Obsidian’s commitment to meatier updates means that there will be more reasons to jump back into the game after the initial early access hype dies down. In the meantime, though, you’ll just have to keep farming materials for the base game crafting recipes to prepare for the road ahead.
