Massive Fallout: New Vegas mod Fallout: New California hits GOG, offering another way to get some “proper, story-driven Fallout” in your belly

Released back in 2018 by a team dubbed Radian-Helix Media, New California’s set out west a couple of decades before that pesky courier into the crawling out of graves to decide the fate of the wasteland business. “You play as the kid from Vault 18,” reads the modders’ synopsis. “Orphan. Loner. Mutant. On the last big night of the Vault Ball season in 2260, you make a fateful decision that will change the course of your life — and eventually the future of the New California Republic.”

As you roam the wastes making decisions and chatting folks’ ears off, you’ll run into a greatest hits of classic Fallout factions. The NCR under prez Wendell Peterson, New Reno mobsters in the form of the Bishop Family, remnant Shi Clans, Enclave lads in power armour, Super Mutant troops, and good old fashioned raiders.

“All in all, it’s more proper, story-driven Fallout filled with significant character choices,” Dominic Tarason wrote in a review of it for us back in 2019. “Some parts might be a bit thinner or rougher than the whole, but this is a well-portioned (10 hours, give or take), highly replayable story — a must for Fallout fans not feeling the call of West Virginia.” Fallout 76 came out in late 2018, if you’re wondering why he goes all John Denver at the end there.

If you grab it via GOG, you’ll also need New Vegas’ ultimate edition from that store. Of course, there’s still the option to grab it via Nexus Mods or ModDB if you prefer.
