It never ceases to amaze us how important and impactful the tiny details are. A huge update dropped on February 4. It brought plenty of great fixes, and it also gave data miners some great materials about the Squids storyline and the bugs from the Gloom. However, the players had eyes for one thing only. The update gave Helldivers 2 players shovels. Yes, you can now dig around. Out of everything new and shiny, the Helldivers loved the shovels the most. This only goes to prove how small details matter the most.
Shovels Are Now Available in Helldivers 2
Following the update, players started randomly stumbling upon shovels lying on the ground. At first, they were confused, but soon after, they discovered how fun the shovels were. You can technically use them in combat, but, more importantly, you can use them for digging.
We know it sounds like quite a simple action, but it can also be extremely joyous. Now, at the time of writing this article, it’s only been a day since the shovels were added, so the players are unsure what exactly they are digging for.
Sure, we’ve found some buried Samples, but we can’t believe the devs added the shovels just for digging up Samples. Some players suggested that digging up tranches and traps for the enemies could be useful.
One player, ArealLimit, tried out the unthinkable and discovered an amazing detail. This player noted: “You can dig up a grave, and there will be a corpse”. Of course, they provided the video evidence of this heinous act.
Though some players condemned this action and called it disrespectful, others had a different opinion. One player, Dynwynn, stated: “If Super Earth gov demands I dig up a grave to retrieve the Samples needed to research new ways of paying my Super Destroyer staff a higher minimum wage, thus letting me call in more Recoilless Rifles to fire at Fabricators, then I’m digging that s**t”.
What’s There Not to Like About Shovels?
The majority of Helldivers 2 players seem to truly love their shovels. In the Reddit community, posts about shovels gathered as much as 18k upvotes, which is quite a number. One player, zazogog16, noted: “Dear developers … thank you! I think alongside the SOS, Reinforce and Resupply, an entrenching tool (x4 for the whole squad) stratagem would be a great addition”.
Now, as always, some Helldivers did have some complaints. Life-Sea-9675 stated: “Wish it was a secondary… Filling the support weapon slot makes it a huge turn-off for me. It’s not even that useful, any support weapon will help more than a shovel. And on top of that, you can’t equip it on loadout selection. Enjoy your shovels, they are not for me”.
Well, to each their own, right? We find the shovels to be quite useful, and we truly hope we’ll get some missions where we have to dig something up. In the meantime, you’ll find us fighting the Jet Brigade for the Major Order. For Liberty and Super Earth.
