Dragon Ball Super 2 will be adapting two of the manga’s craziest sagas, and later have to remake Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero in order to bring in all the little details Toyotarou wrote, including a manga-exclusive prologue and epilogue. The Super Hero Saga’s epilogue is a big deal, in particular. Once Dragon Ball Super 2 gets to Chapter 103 of the manga, the series’ status quo will change forever.
Not only will there be a new strongest Z-Fighter, but Dragon Ball Super 2 will introduce a new Super Saiyan form, as well. There’s a real chance this could be the last Super Saiyan upgrade in Dragon Ball. The Dragon Ball Super manga is currently setting up the Black Frieza Saga, which may very well be the final story arc. It’s fitting that Dragon Ball Super 2s new Super Saiyan form is one of the most powerful transformations in the universe, with more potential than even the Gods.
Broly Will Finally Unlock the Strongest Version of Super Saiyan in the Super Hero Saga
Following the end of the Galactic Patrol Prisoner Saga (which Dragon Ball Super 2 will kick off with), Broly moves to Beerus’ Planet, where he begins training with Goku and Vegeta to control his anger and unlock the real potential of Legendary Super Saiyan. While sparring with Gohan in Dragon Ball Super Chapter 103, Broly’s body taps into his full power, but he manages to reel himself in, so he doesn’t lose control of his senses.
By maintaining his sense of self, Broly is able to upgrade Legendary Super Saiyan into True Legendary Super Saiyan. There was some debate that Broly was just using regular Super Saiyan in the manga, but the official full color manga’s use of green confirms that Broly is using Legendary Super Saiyan Ki. According to Saikyo Jump, True Legendary Super Saiyan has the potential and power to defeat Super Saiyan Blue Gogeta, which means Broly is the second-strongest Z-Fighter after Gohan right now.
Broly is Becoming a Real Z-Fighter in Dragon Ball Super 2
While Broly has yet to do anything major since his own movie, he’s officially joined the Z-Fighters and is being set up as one of the series’ five main characters in the Dragon Ball Super manga. Once Toyotarou comes back from hiatus, it’s expected that Broly will play a large role in the Black Frieza Saga. Dragon Ball Super 2 will get there eventually, but in the meantime, a smart thing to do would be to incorporate Broly into the story earlier.
Broly doesn’t have to fight Moro, but cutting back to him every now and again to show what he’s up to on Vampa would give him some solid early character development, serve as a bridge from Dragon Ball Super: Broly to Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, and set up the larger role he’s going to play in the Black Frieza Saga. It would be foolish of Dragon Ball Super 2 not to do more with Broly as a character.
Goten and Trunks Will Actually Be Able to Turn Super Saiyan in Dragon Ball Super 2
Technically, Broly isn’t the only character getting a new Super Saiyan form. Although they didn’t turn Super Saiyan in the Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero movie, Teen Goten and Teen Trunks will finally get their first official Super Saiyan forms in the anime. In the Dragon Ball Super manga, Goten and Trunks never lost the ability to become Super Saiyans and are way more helpful during the final battle with Cell Max.
Not just that, Goten and Trunks serve as the protagonists of the High School Saga, which Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol will have to adapt after the Granolah the Survivor Saga. The High School Saga sets up the events of the Super Hero Saga, gives Goten, Trunks, and Dr. Hedo more character development, and helps establish that Dragon Ball is no longer about Goku and Vegeta. In fact, there’ll be a good stretch of episodes where Goku and Vegeta won’t appear at all if Dragon Ball Super 2 stays faithful to the manga.
Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan Are Leaving Super Saiyan Behind
Super Saiyan, as Dragon Ball fans know, is going to become a thing of the past over the course of Dragon Ball Super 2. It basically already has, as of the first Dragon Ball Super anime, but the manga only doubles down on personal forms. Goku keeps mastering Ultra Instinct, while Vegeta alternates between Super Saiyan Blue Evolved & Ultra Ego, and Gohan eventually works his way back up to Ultimate-level power, before getting his largest boost ever after unlocking his Beast transformation.
If Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan ever use regular Super Saiyan again, it’ll be to test out some weaker foe. Even Broly’s True Legendary Super Saiyan is something unique to him, and not really the regular version of Super Saiyan, like what Goten and Trunks are using. For the first time since the end of the Frieza Saga, none of the main characters are using Super Saiyan as their main transformation. Super Saiyan will always remain the face of the franchise, but Dragon Ball Super is taking the Saiyans in a brave new direction.
