Metroid Dread Developer Teases Next Game Codenamed Project Iron

After over three years, MercurySteam seems ready to share more about its dark-fantasy action-RPG with the working title Project Iron. The developer released a short clip on social media, teasing that more will be revealed at IGN Fan Fest (an event running from February 24-28).

On X, the Project Iron account shared a 15-second video focusing on a hammer resting on top of what appears to be a stone table. There’s an orangish glow coming from the bottom-left corner, with embers floating through the air. One of the hashtags further teases what to expect, sharing a possible tagline for the game: Forge Your Legend.

In 2021, publisher 505 Games announced it was teaming up with MercurySteam on Project Iron. Little is known about the title. It’s an action-RPG with a third-person perspective in a dark-fantasy setting. In 2023, MercurySteam co-founder Enric Alvarez told Gamereactor that Project Iron is a single-player experience built in the Mercury Engine.

MercurySteam is best known for making Metroid: Samus Returns and Metroid Dread with Nintendo, though previously also worked on the Castlevania series with Konami. From 2010-14, the developer created Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Castlevania: Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate, and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.

Meanwhile, 505 Games is known for publishing titles like Terraria, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, and Control. Almost a year ago, though, Remedy acquired all of the rights to the Control franchise from 505 Games.
