Over the last few years, Black Clover was dealing with constant breaks due to the worsening health of Yuki Tabata, the creator of the story. Despite all the breaks, however, the series officially concluded on May 1, 2026, with the release of Chapter 392. While the story of Black Clover had ended with its last release, Yuki Tabata recently made a brief return with a new chapter, along with a new guidebook, both of which were officially released on August 4, 2026.
Through the final release of the Black Clover manga, as well as the recent release of the guidebook, we have official confirmation of the new hierarchy within Black Bulls. While Yami and Asta are confirmed to have left the group, Nacht and Vanessa have been upgraded to Captain and Vice Captain. Meanwhile, Noelle chose to stay behind as a member of the Black Bulls, but her new position in the squad has surprised many, despite possessing Wizard King-level powers.
Black Clover’s Ending Changes The Black Bulls After The Retirement of Yami and the Ascension of Asta to Wizard King
Black Clover’s ending, which was released on May 1, 2026, in Jump GIGA’s Spring edition, definitely turned the central squad of the story, the Black Bulls, on its head. The Black Bulls were first introduced to us in Chapter 2 of Black Clover when Asta was chosen as one of their new recruits by Yami. Over the years, the Black Bulls have become a group that fans have fallen in love with, and we accompanied them on their long journey from the beginning to the end of Black Clover. This is precisely why it was sad to realize that at the end of Black Clover, the Black Bulls would never be the same group it once was.
On May 1, 2026, in Black Clover Chapter 392, it was officially confirmed that the Black Bulls had lost two of its core members, who also happened to be its two strongest ones. The first member to leave the Black Bulls was revealed to be Yami. As we know, Yami was the overpowered Dark Magic-using Captain of the Black Bulls. His rare Dark Magic attributes made him one of the strongest of the Black Clover verse and an essential component of many battles. Throughout his run, he pushed the Black Bulls forward and assisted them whenever they needed. At the end, Yami retired as he wanted to go back to the Hino country, where he is originally from. The catalyst for his retirement was the announcement of his upcoming marriage to Charlotte, the former captain of the Blue Rose.
After Yami, it was also obvious that Asta had to leave the group as well. Asta flourished in the Black Bulls, but in Black Clover Chapter 391, he won the decisive battle against Yuno and was made the 29th Wizard King of the Clover Kingdom. With his promotion to the Wizard King position, Asta cannot be a member of the Black Bulls anymore, as he holds a new title with new responsibilities. In the new guidebook, we even see his coronation and ascension to the throne. For many, it was a bittersweet moment to see him leave his squad, but he remains extremely close with all of Black Bulls, and now leads the Kingdom forward as a righteous leader.
Black Clover Chapter 392 And New Guidebook Reveal Nacht and Vanessa as New Captain and Vice Captain Of The Black Bulls
Yami and Asta leaving the Black Bulls was a massive moment that would change the Black Bulls group. In essence, this group is now practically remade from the bottom up. While some of the core members remain the same, the hierarchy has definitely shifted. With Yami having retired as a Captain, we saw the ascension of a new leader for the Black Bulls. The one to take on the title of the new Black Bull Captain was Nacht Faust, who first joined the Black Bulls in Chapter 246. For quite a long time in the story, he acted as the Vice Captain of the Black Bulls. As the Vice Captain, it was not surprising to see him promoted to the Captain position following Yami’s retirement, even though many would have preferred to see the likes of Noelle hold this rank.
Vanessa: Say, captaaaain! It’s almost time for the Magic Knights entrance exam!

Nevertheless, Nacht’s position has been known for a while since the ending of Black Clover on May 1, 2026. However, following Nacht leaving the Vice Captain position, we didn’t know who the new Vice Captain was until recently. Luckily, Yuki Tabata finally addressed the matter in the new guidebook, Perfect Grimoire, which was released on August 4, 2026. In this guidebook, Tabata finally revealed that Vanessa Enoteca, one of the oldest members of the group, has finally been promoted to Vice Captain. Vanessa is powerful with her threads of fate, and one of the most beloved members of the group, having been developed tremendously over the course of the story by Tabata. She definitely deserves her new position, and together with Nacht, she will definitely make a great team moving forward.
Noelle Is Officially The Strongest Black Bull Despite No Leadership Rank
Aside from the leadership shifting with the retirement of Yami and promotion of Nacht and Vanessa, the Black Bulls group seems to remain the same for the most part. For example, Charmy, despite having gotten married and conceived seven kids by the end of the story, is still a reliable member of the Black Bulls. Other members like Magna, Luck, and Grey also remain core members of the squad, and they have no plan to leave anytime soon.
Of course, the most beloved and important member of the group who stayed behind is none other than the heroine of our story, Noelle Silva. Noelle was first recruited into the Black Bulls in Chapter 4, and she quickly became an essential part of the story. Her control over Water Magic progressively grew over the course of Black Clover, and she became one of the most powerful characters in the entirety of the Clover Kingdom by the end.
Many fans were disappointed to see her not get any leadership role within the ranks of the Black Bulls, especially as, power-wise, she is easily the strongest among them. Usually, the Captain of a squad is the strongest, with the only exceptions being Asta and Yuno, who grew to surpass their Captains over the course of Black Clover. At the very least, if Nacht was to become the new Captain following his promotion from Vice Captain, we believe Noelle should have been the Vice Captain instead of Vanessa. Regardless, even with no leadership role, Noelle is still a powerhouse and the strongest member they can rely on. Tabata even confirmed in the new guidebook that Noelle is a Wizard King-level character, and that she possesses one of the greatest mana reserves in the story, with the Sea God Leviathan ready to come back and fight with her if ever needed.
