CD Projekt has confirmed that nine employees working on The Witcher spinoff Project Sirius have been laid off, saying it has “adjusted the size of the Sirius team to reflect the project’s needs at this stage of development.”
“As a result, four people in Boston and five in Warsaw are leaving the company, while nine others have been invited to internal recruitment processes for potential roles on other CD Projekt Red projects,” a rep said of the cuts, first reported by Kotaku.
It hasn’t been a smooth ride for Project Sirius, which we first learned about in 2021 when CD Projekt acquired The Molasses Flood to work on an “ambitious project” based on one of CDPR’s existing properties. The plan at the time was to keep The Molasses Flood operating as a distinct entity with its own “identity,” but that fell to the wayside in 2025 when CD Projekt fully absorbed the studio into its own structure.

That move followed trouble with Sirius that ultimately led to a reboot and “updated direction” for the game. Five years after The Molasses Flood acquisition, we still know virtually nothing about the game—its proper title hasn’t even been revealed yet.
And while the number of people being laid off is small compared to the massive cuts at companies like Xbox and Electronic Arts, 18 employees represents a significant chunk of the Sirius development team. CD Projekt said in its Q1 2026 financial report that 83 people were working on the game, meaning that more than 20% of the team has been cut.
