Pokemon fans can secure a free donut on August 22 from Krispy Kreme, but there’s a bit of a catch. Thankfully, a lot of Pokemon fans should already be able to satisfy the free donut requirement quite easily.
Krispy Kreme and Pokemon are teaming up for the first time in the United States, with a new collection of Pokemon donuts arriving. In honor of the collab and the 30th anniversary of Pokemon, a new promo is now being offered that can net fans of the monster-catching franchise a free donut without spending anything.
Pokemon Fans Can Get a Free Krispy Kreme Donut on August 22
For one day only, Krispy Kreme is giving away glazed donuts to Pokemon fans for completely free. On August 22, Pokemon fans who visit a Krispy Kreme location while wearing Pokemon clothing or merchandise can get the donut for completely free, with no purchase required. The promo is limited to one donut per customer, and doesn’t include the new Pokemon donuts that are being produced. However, customers may be able to find them in-store when they visit for the free donut, providing that there is still supply available, as all things Pokemon tend to sell out quickly.

For the unfamiliar, Krispy Kreme recently unveiled a new collection featuring donuts based on Pikachu, Charmander, Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Jigglypuff, and the iconic Poke Ball. PIkachu is a yellow lemon Kreme-filled donut, Charmander is chocolate and marshmallow, Squirtle is cotton candy buttercreme, Jigglypuff is strawberry buttercreme, and Bulbasaur has vanilla icing. Given the overwhelming demand for most Pokemon merchandise, Krispy Kreme has provided pre-order opportunities to secure a box of the donuts in advance. While these are now sold out at many locations, Krispy Kreme has assured fans that more stock will be available on August 19, the day the collab begins.
Thankfully, for those interested in the freebie, there has been no shortage of Pokemon clothing made over the years. In addition to branded merch coming straight from The Pokemon Company and Nintendo, there have also been collabs with fashion brands like Adidas and Uniqlo. Major stores like Target have also offered Pokemon clothing and accessories, so chances are a lot of fans already have at least one item they can put on for the sake of a free donut.
Pokemon fans who lack a local Krispy Kreme location and are interested in the specialty donuts may still be able to acquire a box. Krispy Kreme has partnered with a number of grocery stores, including Walmart, Kroger, Publix, and Stater Brothers to sell the collection. While Krispy Kreme visitors will be able to pick and choose the donuts they want, however, only a collection box will be available at grocery stores. In it, the Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Charmander, and Poke Ball donut will be included. In other words, those who want Bulbasaur or Squirtle will have to go to an actual Krispy Kreme location. With some luck, there will be enough supply available for most visitors to get what they want, but given past trends in Pokemon product demand, fans shouldn’t wait.
