PlayStation added The Rogue Prince of Persia to the PS Plus Extra catalog with a surprise day-one drop on August 20. Sony’s subscription service has had a busy month, with fans recently gaining access to nine new games on PS Plus Extra, as well as two new additions to the Premium tier.
PS Plus Extra recently added games like Coral Island, Mortal Kombat 1, Sword of the Sea, and Spider-Man Remastered. While many expected further roster expansions to the subscription service to not appear until September, it surprised fans with yet another drop in August.
As of August 20, PlayStation Plus Extra subscribers can download The Rogue Prince of Persia, which has just launched version 1.0. This new spin-off is a 2D action roguelike platformer developed by Evil Empire, the studio known for Dead Cells, widely regarded as one of the best roguelike games of recent years. The Rogue Prince of Persia has received an average score of 81 on the review aggregator site OpenCritic, and it holds a Very Positive user review rating on Steam, where it first launched in early access in May 2024.

Roguelike fans looking to check out The Rogue Prince of Persia can expect classic genre elements such as procedurally generated levels, environmental challenges, and high replayability. Developer Evil Empire also adds its own twist by making parkour a core part of the experience. In The Rogue Prince of Persia, players can climb most objects and use nearly all background components to navigate the environment or dodge enemy attacks.
While the addition of a new Prince of Persia installment is likely welcome news for most subscribers, many may be disappointed to learn that several games have recently left the PS Plus Extra and Premium tiers in August. Some of the titles that are freshly unavailable include The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and EA Sports UFC 5.
It remains to be seen whether PS Plus Extra will bring more surprises in August. With Gamescom currently underway, the event has already shown its potential for unexpected reveals. A recent example is The Rogue Prince of Persia, which was showcased during Xbox’s Gamescom broadcast and was later confirmed for both PlayStation Extra and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions, suggesting that more unforeseen additions could still be on the way.
