Fortnite has collaborated with a staggering number of pop culture icons over the years, but some of its most fondly remembered collabs are with the comic book juggernauts Marvel and DC. Whether it’s multiple versions of Batman and Superman, or an entire season of storytelling shaped around the IP like what happened with Marvel (twice), there have been some standout crossovers between superheroes and Fortnite. The game has also featured characters from Invincible, showing that Epic is open to including any popular comic book franchise — meaning the door should be open to Dispatch.
Dispatch may have finished releasing episodes too late in the year to be properly represented at The Game Awards, but the Telltale-like title is widely beloved for numerous reasons. Its writing and humor are adult, allowing for the game to be consistently entertaining, while its art style is appealing and its characters are brilliantly designed. A truly stacked voice cast brings them to life, while quality romances, surprisingly addictive management gameplay, and a catchy soundtrack all elevate the title further. With the Z-Team and those that help run the group quickly becoming viral sensations, it’d almost be more surprising if Fortnite didn’t mine Dispatch for its Item Shop.
Fortnite has collaborated with numerous video game franchises, from Doom and The Witcher to League of Legends and Fallout. With AdHoc being an indie studio, there wouldn’t be much red tape involved either, so a collab should be very possible if the two studios have interest.
The Z-Team Could Carry an Entire Fortnite Season
Unlike how most franchises have a few standout characters to adapt, nearly every member of the Dispatch cast has passionate fans that would love to take control of them in Fortnite. While a smaller batch of skins could be Blonde Blazer, Robert Robertson, and Invisigal, there would be enough for an entire battle pass or multiple skin drops if Fortnite wanted to go all in on Dispatch cosmetics. Potential skins include:
- Robert Robertson
- Invisigal
- Blonde Blazer
- Malevola
- Sonar
- Coupe
- Phenomeman
- Prism
- Flambae
- Waterboy
- Chase
- Shroud
Punch-Up and Golem having such drastic size differences from the other characters would make them tougher to add. Representing them through back bling and other items may be best.
As for potential bundle items, Fortnite wouldn’t struggle to flesh out each character’s pack or battle pass page. Invisigal can have an alternate style with her dark outfit and mask from the final episode, while Blonde Blazer can have an alternate style that gives her the dress and brown hair from the date scene. Robert could have two styles, one being his work attire and another being his Mecha Man costume, with Beef being perfect for Fortnite’s new sidekick feature. Malevola’s sword would be an ideal harvesting tool as well, with bundles for each character being easy to imagine. Dispatch’s art style would also allow the characters to translate perfectly to Fortnite’s slightly cartoony world, allowing them to look exactly like they do in their own game.
The Dispatch cast could shine outside of Fortnite’s battle royale mode, too. For instance, LEGO versions of characters like Invisigal could make her bundle even more appealing, as would a creation kit to build the SDN office. Prism as a Fortnite Festival singer is obviously going to feel natural, and though Flambae’s spin on the work of Meredith Brooks may have a bit too much profanity for the Rock Band-inspired mode, plenty of other music from Dispatch could be added. “Radio,” the song from the incredible house party scene, would be one such addition that can be timed with the other Dispatch content for maximum effect.
A Fortnite and Dispatch Collab Wouldn’t Have to Stop at Cosmetics
While cosmetics are the norm for Fortnite collabs, Epic Games could go above and beyond with its Dispatch content if it wanted to do so. Much like Marvel fans got to battle Doom and Galactus within Fortnite, having a seasonal story cap off in a fight against Shroud’s massive mech could be extremely memorable — especially if players are allowed to pilot a version of Robert’s Mecha Man suit for the fight. Story-wise, it could be easy enough to justify; perhaps one of Malevola’s portals goes haywire and all the characters get thrown onto the Island, including Shroud. Shroud could then find some kind of tech on the island that accomplishes the same thing as the Astral Pulse, making him omniscient and forcing everyone to work together to overpower him in a finale event.
Alternatively, something like Fortnite’s Kill Bill short film would be a great way to make a Dispatch collab feel more special. Perhaps it could have dialogue choices and QTEs like AdHoc’s game, with Epic Games going the extra mile to make it feel accurate to the source material. Seeing Dispatch’s cast come to terms with Fortnite’s island and its many strange inhabitants would be a simple but fun setup for the short, and it’d be a nice treat to help make the long wait for Dispatch Season 2 more bearable. While this would be a lot of extra work, if Dispatch were made the main focus of the season like Marvel was on two separate occasions, it’d be easy to justify it.
Regardless of whether Dispatch is treated as just a simple one-off collab where its most beloved characters come to the Item Shop, or serves as the star of the show for a few months, a Fortnite and Dispatch partnership is a match made in heaven. The characters aren’t just popular, but a natural fit for Fortnite’s art style, and there’s room to create some special limited-time content to celebrate their arrival. Hopefully, Dispatch comes to Fortnite soon, as it feels like one of the most natural fits for a crossover ever and a natural way to celebrate its success before Dispatch season 2.
