Nami is one of the most important members of the Straw Hat Pirates, despite not being the strongest. She is a part of the original five who hail from the East Blue and are the primary protagonists of this adventure. Nami is also the heroine of One Piece, and her role in the overarching world of One Piece absolutely cannot be understated.
In the Elbaf arc, Nami has had little to do, but that’s not to say that she hasn’t grown in terms of strength. That said, fans want to see Nami attain even higher power, and one way that she could do that would be through a Devil Fruit Power. Interestingly enough, Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, has already teased a Devil Fruit Power for her back in One Piece Vol. 98, which many fans overlook. More importantly, Oda has also lined up another perfect Devil Fruit for her, which is currently in circulation and could find its way to the Navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates.
One Piece Creator Officially Confirms Goro Goro No Mi To Be Best Suited For Nami
Within the ranks of the Straw Hat Pirates, there are only four Devil Fruit users. Monkey D. Luffy is the first Devil Fruit user of the crew, and he consumed this fruit on July 18, 1997, in the very first chapter of the series. The second Devil Fruit user to join the crew was Chopper, who did so in the Drum Island Arc and became the first recruit with an ability. Chopper was followed by Nico Robin at the end of the Arabasta Arc in Chapter 216, and then Brook joined in Thriller Bark, becoming the final Devil Fruit user of the crew. All the Devil Fruit users of the Straw Hat Pirates are incredibly impressive, but Eiichiro Oda is well aware of the fact that fans want to see more Devil Fruit users in this crew. To that end, in One Piece Volume 98, which was officially released on February 4, 2021, Eiichiro Oda gave each Straw Hat a Devil Fruit power.
Q: If Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Franky were to become ability users, then what kind of fruit do you think they would have eaten?
O: I see, that’s quite a fun question. Hmmm… what I would like to see is…
•Zoro: Uo Uo no Mi, Model: Seiryu (Fish-Fish Fruit, Mythical Type Model: Seiryuu), “I’d want the sword to turn into a dragon rather than Zoro. I think that would be insanely cool.”
•Nami: Goro Goro no Mi (Rumble-Rumble Fruit) (lightning human), “A true weather lady; now no one can stop her anymore (apart from Luffy).
•Usopp: Poke Poke no Mi (Pocket-Pocket Fruit) (infinite pockets in one’s body), “The perfect pocket for someone like Usopp who always has something up his sleeve.”
•Sanji: Sui Sui no Mi (Swim-Swim Fruit), “It allows one to slip through walls or swim on the ground. If given to Sanji, it would become quite the nasty ability.”
•Franky: Buki Buki no Mi (Arms-Arms Fruit), “Can’t get any better than this for an ability for Franky.”
In the case of Nami, he assigned her the power of the Logia-type Goro Goro no Mi. For those who do not know, the Goro Goro no Mi is a powerful Devil Fruit that allows one to turn into lightning as well as freely manipulate lightning at will. This is a Devil Fruit that would be absolutely perfect for Nami, as it would allow her control over lightning to a much greater degree. Nami is a weather woman, and for her to have this Devil Fruit ability at her disposal would make her unstoppable in combat. Unfortunately, this Devil Fruit is already in the possession of Enel, the main antagonist of the Skypiea Arc, who is currently still alive, which means there’s no way for Nami to attain this power. That said, Eiichiro Oda has also teased another interesting power upgrade for Nami, which comes through another Devil Fruit. This fruit is none other than the Soru Soru no Mi, formerly wielded by Big Mom.
Why Nami Could Get Soru Soru no Mi in The Future
Nami being perfect for the power of the Soru Soru no Mi should not come as a surprise to any fan. This is because she already holds a portion of its powers through Zeus, whom she attained in One Piece Chapter 1015. Zeus was created from the soul of Big Mom herself and is currently fused with Nami’s climate act. Furthermore, when Big Mom was officially introduced to us in the Whole Cake Island Arc, one of her ex-husbands explained in Chapter 843 that she is a woman who controls the weather itself, just like Nami, and she does this through her Soru Soru no Mi. Currently, Nami has already taken the lightning aspect of the power, but she would do incredibly well to have Prometheus at her disposal as well.

Interestingly enough, on May 30th, 2022, in One Piece Chapter 1050, Big Mom and Kaido both got caught up in a massive cataclysmic explosion outside Wano Country. Their fate has since remained unknown. If Big Mom and Kaido are truly dead, as stated by the Blackbeard Pirates, then the Soru Soru no Mi would have returned into circulation. The best person who this fruit is suited to would be none other than the navigator of the Straw Hat Pirates, Nami, who already holds a portion of this power.
Nami’s End-of-Series Power Level in One Piece
Regardless of whether Nami gets the power of the Soru Soru Numi or not, she is going to be incredibly strong at the end of the series. Nami might be one of the Weakling Trio, but she is still strong enough to take down an elite officer of the Yonko Crew. Currently, Nami should be strong enough to beat one of the Tobiroppo or any other powerful generals of other Yonko Crews. Furthermore, she is likely to grow even further in terms of strength as the story continues.
Interestingly enough, in One Piece Chapter #1058, which was officially released on August 29, 2022, Eiichiro Oda teased Conqueror’s Haki for Nami. If she gets this power, she will easily become one of the strongest in the entire series by the end. Nami is also likely to grow by evolving her knowledge of weather, as well as upgrading the Climatact. All things considered, in the final saga of One Piece, Nami is highly likely to be on a completely different level of strength. We absolutely cannot wait to see what she turns into when she fully matures as a fighter. For now, she is still one of the weaker members of the crew, but we can only hope that she gains further upgrades in terms of strength soon enough.
