Magic: The Gathering’s Next Set is Already Having Issues

The next set coming to Magic: The Gathering is already facing supply issues before its full release, with Reality Fracture potentially being available in limited quantities in North America. The expansion is slated to be the final in-universe set of the year for Magic: The Gathering.

The Wizards of the Coast trading card game has seen an eventful 2026 with plenty of major sets released throughout the year. Magic: The Gathering‘s in-universe sets have brought fans back to many of the game’s most beloved settings, seeing the release of Lorwyn Eclipsed expansion in January and Secrets of Strixhaven in April. The TCG has also introduced multiple new crossovers to the game throughout the year, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Marvel Super Heroes, and The Hobbit. Now, the final set of 2026 could be facing some serious supply problems in one of the game’s biggest regions.

Magic: The Gathering’s Reality Fracture May Face Shortages

Wizards of the Coast confirmed that Reality Fracture has been met with significant supply constraints ahead of its launch. The company said that the issue is related to shipping for the set in North America, suggesting that Play Boosters for the expansion’s initial wave may be in limited supply at launch. The company did not confirm how long it expects the supply constraints to last, though the new Magic: The Gathering set could fetch higher prices on the secondary market as a result of the shortage. Magic: The Gathering‘s Reality Fracture expansion is scheduled to officially release on October 2.

Reality Fracture will mark a major climax for the story of Magic: The Gathering, bringing popular planeswalker Jace back into the spotlight. The set focuses on Jace’s alternate Echoverse and features alternate-universe versions of multiple popular Magic characters, and even an alternate version of Magic‘s popular Strixhaven setting. Reality Fracture is also debuting reimagined color-swapped versions of several classic cards, such as Craterhoof Behemoth, Snapcaster Mage, and Dark Confidant. Wizards of the Coast has confirmed one Commander deck releasing alongside the set, featuring a four-color version of Jace as its commander.

Reality Fracture is not the only new set planned to release in 2026, closing out the year with one more crossover. Magic: The Gathering will officially debut a collaboration with Star Trek as its last set of the year, adding a plethora of cards based on iconic characters and moments from the series. Wizards of the Coast has also revealed the biggest chase cards set to appear in the Star Trek set, releasing special autographed Star Trek cards signed by the actors who portrayed characters like Captain Kirk, Captain Picard, and Captain Janeway.

Magic: The Gathering has already given fans a look ahead at some Magic sets planned to release in 2027. Wizards of the Coast will kick off 2027 with the release of Nauctis: The Sunken Realm, debuting a brand-new aquatic plane inhabited by Merfolk and other sea creatures. Kamigawa: Titanbreach will bring together two of the game’s most popular settings, mixing the giant monsters of Ikoria with the mechs and futuristic tech of Kamigawa. The plane of Zhalfir will also have its first starring role as the last in-universe set of 2027, being the home of popular planeswalker Teferi. Magic: The Gathering players should have every reason to look forward to the game’s future, with a multitude of exciting sets on the way.
