If it feels like Xbox has gone quiet on the anticipated PlayStation 5 port of Forza Horizon 6, that’s because it has indeed been months since that version of the game was brought up. Forza Horizon 6 has always been slated for release this year on PS5, but new reports suggest that may not happen.
The Verge’s Tom Warren recently wrote on X that he’s “not expecting to see Forza Horizon 6 on PS5 in 2026,” responding to a tweet asking whether the game had been quietly delayed to 2027. IGN later revealed in its coverage of the post that the site “understands this to be accurate”.
Whether or not that means the game has been officially delayed remains to be seen, but it’s clear something in Microsoft’s plans has shifted. The last time official Forza Horizon channels posted about the PS5 release was in January, when it confirmed the open-world driving game would see release this year on Sony’s platform.
Since then, things have been unusually quiet, though it’s not hard to see why. Between the time of that initial announcement and today, there’s been a lot of turmoil at Xbox following new CEO Asha Sharma’s appointment in February. Although she has flipflopped on which franchises will remain multi-platform and which will be exclusive to Xbox, it’s clear Xbox is recentering the console and bringing back exclusives.
In June, Xbox announced that Gears of War: E-Day is an Xbox console exclusive, denying reports that a PS5 version was planned – even as leaked promotional material was seen advertising the game’s availability on PS5. The company also said Clockwork Revolution will not see release on Sony’s platform.
One thing remained clear throughout that chaos, however, and that is Xbox’s commitment to previously-made announcements. The company shipped Halo: Campaign Evolved on PS5 as planned. The upcoming Fable reboot, announced for PS5 alongside Xbox and PC, remains on track for a simultaneous release on 23rd February.
Based on that, it’s unlikely Forza Horizon 6 has been cancelled for PS5 altogether; Xbox may have pushed back its release to emphasise its Xbox exclusivity a little longer. Horizon 6 has been a tremendous success so far, and its predecessor sold over 5 million copies on PS5, too, so Microsoft isn’t in a hurry to release the PS5 version.
