PlayStation State of Play Officially Returns This Week

PlayStation is bringing back its State of Play showcase this week for not one, but two livestream events. A new State of Play broadcast will air on Thursday, Sept. 3, Sony Interactive Entertainment announced Monday, which will be immediately followed by a second State of Play for Japan. One of the big highlights of September’s State of Play showcase will be an extended look at Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.

The events may offer a sneak peek of PlayStation’s presence at next month’s Tokyo Game Show.

When is Sony’s September State of Play showcase?

The first State of Play for September will start at 6 a.m. PDT/9 a.m. EDT in North America, 3 p.m. CEST in Europe, and 10 p.m. JST in Japan. State of Play will stream on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels.

Sony didn’t announce how long Thursday’s State of Play will be, but it will feature “updates and announcements from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners.” The latter includes Square Enix, which will show more from “the vast world” of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, the final chapter in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake project.

Immediately after Thursday’s State of Play, Sony will stream a new episode of State of Play Japan hosted by Yuki Kaji. September’s State of Play Japan promises “deep dives into upcoming games from game studios in Japan and Asia, including new gameplay, announcements, and more.” State of Play Japan will be streamed in Japanese with English subtitles.

PlayStation’s most recent State of Play — excluding the one dedicated to Phantom Blade Zero — was in June. During that showcase, Sony and its partners focused on games such as Marvel’s Wolverine, God of War Laufey, Kemuri: Hunt the Unseen, and Until Dawn 2. In addition to those titles, PlayStation Studios is working on announced games such as Fairgames, Horizon Hunters Gathering, and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
