How to Catch a Tsuchinoko in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

How to Catch a Tsuchinoko in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

There are dozens of animals to capture in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, but the rarest of them all is the legendary Tsuchinoko. You’ll need to capture a Tsuchinoko to get the Believe It or Not trophy/achievement in Metal Gear Solid Delta, and it’s also required to unlock other useful items as well.

Capturing a Tsuchinoko is easier said than done in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and you can only find one in very specific areas of the game. On top of that, the Tsuchinoko doesn’t appear normally like the rest of the animals in the game, so you’ll have to place Mousetraps and hope you get lucky. Here’s where you can catch a Tsuchinoko in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.

You can only capture a Tsuchinoko in these specific locations:

  • Dremuchij (North/South/Swampland)
  • Chyornyj Prud
  • Bolshaya Past South
  • Graniny Gorki South
  • Svyatogornyj (South/West)
  • Sokrovenno (North/South/West)

These are the only spots where a Tsuchinoko can appear in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, so be sure to save your Mousetraps for these areas. Dremuchij, Chyornyj Prud, and Bolshaya Past South are all located before the first boss fight with The Pain. Graniny Gorki and Svyatogornyj are closer to The Fear boss battle, and Sokrovenno is The End’s boss arena.

How to Capture a Tsuchinoko in Snake Eater

Metal Gear Solid Delta Tsuchinoko Mousetrap

You can only capture a Tsuchinoko with a Mousetrap in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. It doesn’t appear to the naked eye, and you can’t even spot it with the help of Thermal Goggles or any other sensors. Just set a Mousetrap in one of the specified areas, and wait for it to catch something. If you’re lucky, it’ll be a Tsuchinoko!

It helps to shoot every other animal in the area to prevent them from getting caught in your Mousetraps. With fewer animals around, you’ll be more likely to capture a Tsuchinoko.

The easiest place to capture a Tsuchinoko in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is Bolshaya Past South. You’ll arrive here after encountering Ocelot at Rassvet, the factory where you found Sokolov during the Virtuous Mission.

Metal Gear Solid Delta Mousetraps

You need Mousetraps first, though. Two can be found at Bolshaya Past Base, the next area after Bolshaya Past South. You can find one in the wooden provisions shed in the center of the area, then another underneath the bed by the Kerotan frog in the central building.

Once you have the Mousetraps, head to Bolshaya Past South and place them down just a few steps into the area. Run back and forth between Bolshaya Past South and Bolshaya Past Base until the traps catch something. It may take a few tries, but you’ll eventually find a Tsuchinoko. You can use this strategy in any Tsuchinoko spawn areas as well.

Later in the game, Snake will temporarily lose all of his equipment. The Tsuchinoko will also be lost at that point, so make sure to retrieve it later on. It can be found in Tikhogornyj after regrouping with EVA. Once you meet her by the waterfall and get your gear back, head back outside and scan the area with the Thermal Goggles to spot the Tsuchinoko crawling around.

There’s only one Tsuchinoko in the game, so don’t eat it. If you make it to the end of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater with a Tsuchinoko in your inventory, you’ll unlock the Infinity face paint, which gives you infinite ammo. It’s one of the rarest rewards in MGS Delta, so make sure you hang onto that mythical snake no matter what.
