EA Game is Permanently Shutting Down on September 11

EA is preparing to shut down yet another one of its games in the very near future. Nearly every month, EA shuts down one or more of its games. Sometimes the games EA shuts down lose their online services but still have a single-player component for fans to enjoy. Other times, the games EA shuts down are online-only titles, so when their servers are shuttered, they effectively cease to exist. It’s always disappointing whenever any game is shut down, but EA does at least give fans ample time to play games before it pulls the plug.

EA keeps a running list of the games it is shutting down so that fans can plan accordingly. Some of the more recent EA games shut down were a pair of NHL titles that were closed at the end of August, but fans knew the shutdowns were coming well in advance. The same can be said for the next EA game that is on the chopping block, but fans are running out of time to play it.

When is Grid Legends Shutting Down?

Grid Legends is shutting down on September 11, so racing game fans should make sure to play it while they still can. For those unfamiliar with the game, Grid Legends was developed by Codemasters and first released in 2022, so it is shutting down just four years after it was originally launched. Grid Legends is the latest installment in the Grid franchise, and so its shutdown means that it will now be much harder for franchise fans to play multiplayer. Unlike many other EA shutdowns, though, there is at least one silver lining when it comes to Grid Legends shutting down.

Grid Legends‘ single player content will remain playable after the servers are shut down on September 11.

The specific versions of Grid Legends that are shutting down are the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. These versions are the ones that most people probably own, and so it’s still incredibly devastating that the online servers are being shut down for fans of the game on those platforms. However, EA released Grid Legends on Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year. The Nintendo Switch 2 version of the game will remain online for the foreseeable future, so that is one way the game will live on. Mobile and VR versions of the game were also released, and those versions will presumably still be playable beyond the September 11 date. However, anyone on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox that wants to play Grid Legends to its fullest should make it a point to do so between now and September 11.

Grid Legends is one of the last games EA has confirmed is shutting down in 2026. It’s also been announced that NBA Mobile 26 is shutting down on October 27, but nothing beyond that has been confirmed at the time of this writing. EA updates its list of games it’s shutting down on a regular basis, though, so fans should brace themselves for the possibility that more shutdowns will be announced before the year is out.

As far as the Grid series goes, no new Grid game has been announced at the time of this writing. F1 25 is the latest game released by Codemasters, with that racer dropping last year. Racing game fans at least still have plenty of options, but it’s still sad to see Grid Legends go.
