Have you ever wondered how the Helldivers 2 devs came up with themes for Warbonds? Have they just been listing their favorite items, or have they been trying to tell a story? Some players noticed an interesting pattern, and it made them concerned about what was happening on Super Earth.
Themes of Warbonds Have Drastically Changed
Truth be told, we are constantly amazed by this community and the things its members notice and invent. This time, one player, Doob_42, expressed concern for Super Earth, as the recent Warbonds seemingly had somewhat extreme themes.
The OP noted: “You good, Super Earth? All previous warbonds have been about different divisions of military technology, but the three most recent have been inquisition-style agents, what looks like riot police, and now suicidal martyrs with heavy religious symbolism. Is everything alright on Super Earth?”.
Many players, us included, haven’t noticed this before, but if you look at the Warbonds, this seems to be the truth. Steeled Veterans. We have Cutting Edge, Democratic Detonation, Polar Patriots, Viper Commandos, Freedom’s Flame, and Chemical Agents. Somehow, all of these sound quite democratic.
However, starting with Truth Enforcers, then Urban Legends, and now Servants of Freedom, there is a noticeable shift. Warbonds’ themes seem to be getting a bit extreme, and some Helldivers 2 players are once again starting to wonder if we truly are the bad guys.

Helldivers 2 Players Have a Theory About What Urged Themes to Change
As you may have expected, the realization that themes were becoming increasingly dark and specific urged players to come up with theories about what was going on. The community suggested plenty of undemocratic ideas, one theory took the cake.
AgingLemon noted: “This Warbond [Servants of Freedom] ties in well with the theory that Super Earth is losing or struggling in the war as suggested in this or one of the Helldivers subs, based on the appearance of the tattered flag in EoF [Escalation of Freedom] and it being on the ground in OoT [Omens of Tyranny]. We have the double-edged Sickle which was probably rushed into use hence why it can hurt/kill the user, an overpowered grenade launcher that barely flies far enough, and a backpack nuke”.
Could it be possible that we are fighting a losing war? Is Super Earth becoming more and more desperate while simultaneously pretending that nothing is wrong? We’re only one year in, and we can’t help but wonder how long will Super Earth be able to keep up appearances. So, let’s do our best to help out. The pesky Squids are back at it, and time is of the essence. We’ll be diving on Emorath, will you join us? For Liberty and Super Earth.
