Copper is finally useful.
The third game drop of the year is arriving soon in Minecraft, and it promises to bring a wave of exciting new features to explore. The Copper Age update is finally giving copper some actually helpful uses, so it’s a big one.
Minecraft doesn’t get new updates very often, so whenever there’s one coming, you’ll likely want to be prepared to jump in as soon as possible. If you’re looking forward to this one, here’s when the Copper Age update will be released and all the new features it’s bringing to Minecraft.
When is Minecraft Copper Age update releasing?

The official release date for The Copper Age update hasn’t been revealed yet, but since it was originally called the Fall 2025 drop, it’s slated to release sometime between September and November. The latest update we got on the release date is in the official update name announcement post, which only mentioned that it will be “out later this year.”
We’ll likely get an official release date in the coming months, so as soon as we do, we’ll update all relevant details here. For now, though, you can jump right into a Java snapshot or a Bedrock beta to start testing out all of the exciting new additions.
All Minecraft Copper Age update features
As the name of this update hints, The Copper Age update is focused on enhancing the number of ways you can use copper in Minecraft. This includes adding new copper gear, a friendly new copper creature, and much more. Here’s a full breakdown of all key features that have been revealed so far.
Copper Golem and copper chest
The Copper Golem is a new mob you can make and have around for assistance. This mob can be created by placing a carved pumpkin on top of a copper block. They spawn with a copper chest, which you can place an item in to have the Copper Golem sort into other chests. They’re great allies for organizing your base.
Over time, the Copper Golem will slowly oxidize and change color. Upon reaching the final oxidation stage, this creature will retire and turn into a decorative statue, assuming one of four unique poses. If you miss your friend and want them back, they can be scraped with an axe to revive them. If you act before they turn into a statue, you can wax your Copper Golem with honeycomb to prevent further oxidation. This creature also has some unique interactions with the Iron Golem.
Copper tools, weapons, and armor

A complete near gear set made entirely out of copper is featured in this update. This includes copper tools, weapons, and armor, which means you can have a full getup made solely out of this material. Copper gear falls right between stone and iron, making it better than leather, gold, stone, and chainmail, but worse than iron, diamond, and netherite. It’s pretty average and a solid set to use while you work on acquiring better items.
Shelf
The handy new shelf block allows you to display up to three items at once. You can also connect multiple shelves together, allowing for a much longer, seamless shelf if desired. This item is quite helpful for labeling chests, displaying prized possessions, or decorating, giving you plenty of new ways to play.
More copper blocks
There are some new decorative copper blocks you can craft with this update, granting even more ways to use this resource. This includes copper lanterns, copper torches, copper chains, and copper bars.
Dye art
All of the dye art icons have received a makeover. This redesign is meant to make them easier to identify and distinguish from one another by granting all unique dye colors a different shape.
While you wait for this update to arrive, there are plenty of other tasks that can keep you busy in the meantime. You might try getting the Lava Chicken music disc, turning on Vibrant Visuals, and using the player locator bar.
