Diablo 4 recently teased that some popular seasonal mechanics could return sometime in the future. Though nothing is set in stone yet, the Diablo 4 development team would like to find a way to keep or iterate on popular game mechanics, even after their seasons are done.
As a live service game, Diablo 4 puts out a new season of content every few months, each revolving around a particular gimmick. While some features stick around afterward, most go away with the next major update. For example, Sins of the Horadrim, the current season, features the temporary Horadric Strongrooms, Jewels, and Spells, alongside the evergreen Escalating Nightmares feature in Diablo 4.
Old Diablo 4 Seasonal Features Could Return
However, according to the director of Diablo social and content marketing, Adam Fletcher, Blizzard is considering adjustments to this model in the future. While fielding a question from D4 fan ACosmicPhoenix on Twitter about whether Diablo 4 Season 10’s Chaos Armor would be an eternal or seasonal feature, Fletcher confirmed the development team “wants to keep things or maybe evolve things even more if they work well.” That said, he was sure to emphasize that if such a change were to happen, the features might not return immediately in the next season.
This would be a net positive for Diablo 4 as a whole. While many players enjoy seasonal strength like Diablo 4 Season 2’s Vampiric Powers or Season 7’s Witchcraft Powers, the most popular features in Diablo 4 tend to be the eternal, evergreen ones. For example, Season 4, Loot Reborn, was widely considered one of the most popular Diablo 4 seasons, as it introduced fundamental changes to the game’s core rewards system. If other seasonal features and changes were to become eternal as well, many fans would have an easier time becoming invested in them and not experiencing FOMO if they happen to take a break from the game for a few months.
