The first mission of Borderlands 4, aka Recruitment Drive, throws a headache when you’re about to get clearance for the elevator.
The mission, by itself, is straightforward and linear in nature. It involves fundamental tasks that help you grasp the basics, get your Glider pack, and your first Safehouse in the game. However, there’s an apparent bug that could trigger on certain occasions. This prevents you from calling the elevator and proceeding with the mission.
Thankfully, this problem is really easy to fix.
How to call the elevator in Borderlands 4 Recruitment Drive?
The Recruitment Drive mission is all about you and Claptrap, as the latter instructs you on what to do. Once you clear the initial wave of the rippers, the next task is to call the elevator. However, the switch you have to press is not there (it’s at the top).
You might seem stuck at this point, as there are no further instructions. If that happens, you’ll have to restart the process. But before doing so, wait around a minute since Claptrap first instructs you about the elevator. If he gives you no further instructions, you must reload the save. However, I waited for around a minute, which led to Claptrap telling me to go and infiltrate the Ripper base.
Once you have infiltrated the Ripper base and eliminated Splashzone, return to the top of the broadcasting tower. From there, use your Glider to hover over to the top to get your first Safehouse in Borderlands 4. To do so, you’ll need Claptrap, who is at the bottom of the tower.
To help Claptrap reach the top, you’ll have to call the elevator. Here, you’ll find that the switch is malfunctioning, but the game won’t tell exactly what you have to do. Your next job is simple: go close to the dead junkie lying by the stash right in front of the elevator switch. You’ll find a fuse on him to repair the switch and make the elevator functional here.
If you appear stuck at this phase, don’t fret. Just wait until Claptrap’s instructions load to fix the elevator switch. Claptrap will then come to the top and ask you to deal with a stuck door. Use your melee attack to fix the door and get your first Safehouse before proceeding with the campaign.
